Three straight nights of boxing
Tonight on Versus ... Rahman and Kid Diamond on the card
Tomorrow night on ESPN great bout between Bute and Bika Saturday night on HBO Malinaggi and N'Dou with a solid undercard fight of Andre Dirrell vs. Curtis Stevens. Plus the replay of Cotto-Judah .. FOY so far. |

For a guy nicknamed "Cherry Bomb" you figure he would have more KO's. That guy can't break a pane of glass. Cherry is a decent fighter but more of a gatekeeper than a real contender.
Not going to say much about the Versus card tonight. It's pretty lame but it's still boxing and i'm going to watch. Bute/Bika should be an outstanding fight. I'm expecting this to be a showcase of Bute to the American boxing fans. Bika will be a world champ at some point even if he loses. The HBO card should be pretty good. Hopefully A. Dirrell will sit Stevens firmly on his keister. |

Yeah, I heard Rahman is coming in @ 261 tonight.
Bute vs. Bika should be great. Bika was going to be in that SMW tourney on Showtime last year but pulled out to fight Calzaghe & I've heard a lot of good things about Bute. For the HBO card, they open with the tape of Cotto/Judah & do we get 2 lives fights after that? |

HBO will air both fights after the Judah/Cotto replay from what I have read. The SMW division is stacked and personally if Calzaghe lost to Kessler, it would be the best thing to happen to the division. I would definitely level out the playing field and one guy would not be considered dominant. |

Good, 2 live fights on Sat. & the replay. Seems odd that we'd have 3 fights total this Sat. & just Hatton/Castillo on the 23rd - hopefully if not live, they'll at least show clips of Oganov @ 168. I agree, some interesting fighters at 168. Froch from England might be someone on the rise. |

Wow that Kid Diamond fight was a good one but what the hell were the judges thinking.
Rahman what a fat pig. If he gets another title shot i am gonna die. Last edited by gocubsgo : 06-15-2007 at 02:04 AM. |

Rahman didn't even prepare properly (four weeks of camp) and IMO Sykes won the fight. He did a lot more and for any judge to give "Rock" a decision based on a whole lot of pity-pat punches to the sides that had no effect shouldn't be judging a prize fight. |

I actually had the Kid Diamond fight at 6-6 so with the knockdown I had it 114-113 Huerta.
I think Huerta would give a lot of LW's fits. I don't think Diamond is an upper class prospect but to look bad in that fight was more credit to Huerta. What I saw was Diamond landing boxing shots (jabs) and power punches while Huerta only landed power shots. That was one of the biggest "sway" the viewer jobs I've seen by announcers and the broadcast. One actually said Huerta could beat any LW out there. The broadcast only showed power punches which for the most part were even. Huerta didn't throw a single jab all night where Diamond threw a lot. That being said Huerta was the aggressor the whole night. I didn't even watch the Rahman fight after the first round two fat guys hugging each other doesn't thrill. |

I guess you can't blame guys like Rahman for doing what he's doing. He's collecting a paycheck and living off of his past accomplishments to pocket chunks of change along the way. Tim Witherspoon did it for years.

Pernell has been like that for a while. I'm suspecting the punishment in the ring and his drug addiction has really deteriorated his speech. |

Was he really punished that often? Isn't he considered one of the better defensive fighters of his time? I'd lean more towards the drugs (tho I didn't actually get to hear/see what you guys are talking about).
