wow Slice took him out pretty quick .. although I was unsure how it was stopped because I don't know much about MMA .... Slice did the right thing and bumrushed him to get him on the ground. From the Slice videos I've seen where he tries to box/fight Mercer would have killed him.

Kimbo got the tapout with a Guillotine Choke. Yep, Kimbo's gameplan was quite smart getting in close as quickly as possible so Mercer's boxing skills an punching power won't be as effective. Mercer has stated that he won't be doing anymore MMA, now someone just needs to get him to retire from boxing since he's pretty much done at this point and I don't think anyone wants to see him catch unnecessary beatings.

That is normally what happens when a trained 48 year old takes on a trained 32 year old. Plus, Mercer walks around at 300 lbs...that has to take a toll on your body.

This is what happens when a shot, old boxer that hasn't spent 5 minutes learning ground fighting meets a guy that actually has done his homework.

Mercer is only out to collect a paycheck theese days. His attempts in K1 and MMA are pitiful.

I agree with Mike that if Mercer had fought Kimbo in a boxing match i'm sure that the outcome would have been an entirely different one...To bad for Ray that it wasn't a boxing match though.

Edit: Even though I don't think much of Kimbo (as a fighter/boxer based on the videos, not as a person) I think that he deserves some credit. He looked like he had a strategy and a smart one at that (facing a much, much better boxer). I think that he could be serious in his attempt as an MMA fighter.

* I don't like Kimbo much. He is a bodyguard for a porno guy. I can't wait till someone wipes the floor with him which will happpen. That said, he will put butts in the seats. This is why MMA and the like is more like the WWE than a real sport...I can't believe I'm commenting on it.

Oh yeah Kimbos strategy was very well thought out. I would have to agree that Ray was just looking to collect a paycheck. Why the heck else would he have not been prepared for more ground fighting. Did he really think an MMA guy was gonna go toe to toe with him standing up? Ah well.

Kimbo Slice isn't a MMA fighter, he's a streetfighter who's gotten attention on the internet because the Porn company that he was a bodyguard for put out videos of his fights. Kimbo's streetfights are basically bareknuckle boxing matches so neither guy really had an advantage in ground experience. What happen here was that Kimbo took this fight seriously and hooked up with one of the top training camps in the nation while Mercer didn't. Plus, Mercer being so damn old didn't help either.

I don't know much about his persona so I can't really say anything about him.

Kimbo is the "jackass generation's" big hero when it comes to fighting. That is why he draws attention. He will be exposed as soon as he faces a "real" MMA fighter with well rounded skills. I think that he will be the Tank Abbott of the late 2000's. Like Tank he can beat lower echelon fighters but he will be handed his ass against more skilled fighters.

* Very well put. We have a MMA training center here in Utica, NY and there are about 20 guys in there that could take Kimbo out quickly.
