Swelling in the game

I just got finished matching Audley Harrison against Dave Bostice in my universe. Bostice's eye started swelling in the 3rd, but the ref let it go on. With TBCB II, I've never seen a fight were another fighter's eye was completely swelled shut. Usually the fight gets stopped after the swelling bar reaches slightly past the half-way point. The graphic goes from yellow, to slightly darker, to a red.

In this fight, though, the swelling bar was only 3 squares away from being fully swelled shut, and the graphic for the swelling indicator turned purple.

It was the first time I ever saw that.

I've seen it a time or two but it is rare. I always feel like I'm sitting here yelling "stop the fight"

I think it was TBCB I - but the fights would go on for a round or two with a guy's eye swelled completely shut.

Yeah... they don't make computer sims like that anymore. These days the computer ref's run in and stop it.

Yeah, having the swelling go all the way to purple is rare but I had it happen in early June with Antonio Tarver swelling up the left eye of Jesus Ruiz to purple.

A couple years ago, I had many fights stopped due to swelling. A classic was Mayorga vs. Quartey @ 154 with Mayorga's eye beginning to swell. Looked like only a matter of time before the ref stopped the fight & a win for Ike but Mayorga rallied & stopped Ike due to eye swelling instead.

It made Mayorga a star until he went for the WBC JMW title & got knocked out in the 4th by Takaloo.

Wow. Now that's punishment. A gash under the right eye, a cut over the right eye... and a cut under the left eye. And both eyes just about shut. Give that poor guy a pair of dark sunglasses for the post-fight interview.

On another note; it would probably take 3 months to recover from all of that damage.

I agree. I remember having a lot more bloody fights and intensive swelling when I was playing the sim on Lance Haffner's title. I can remember some crazy fights that had both fighters bleeding, with cuts above eyes and swelling and they would just be pounding on each other like a "Rocky" film fight. I think the programming has changed with the sign of the times, LOL! A lot of premature stoppages to insure the safety of the individual fighters in this litigious world of ours. Is litigious spelled correctly? Litigation. Oh well.

Swelling like that would make Carmen Basilio proud.
