Harry Simon
Here is what our database notes say
A physcially gifted and well-conditioned fighter, Simon was a hard charging and relentless slugger who could box when he needed to. If his WBO lt-middle and Middleweight belts he held were not enough evidence of his talent, he held a victory over "Winky" Wright to preserve his undefeated record. Frustrated with his inability to land the big-name payday fights, Simon hasn't fought since 2002. Whether he is through with the sport or could come back to land a big fight are questions still left to be answered. What's not said in this is that he was involved in a bad car accident in late 2002 which killed 3 people. He was convicted of "culpable homicide" and given a 2 year jail sentence in August of 2005. He evidently got off on good behaviour because he fought again in March of 07 for the first time in 5 years. He is the weird part, he had previously been involved in another car accident that killed two people. So for those of you keeping count ... he has killed five people ... and by the way Winky Wright still thinks he won their 1998 bout. |

Harry Simon could have been a great middleweight if not for his legal problems and poor commitment to the sport. I wouldn't read too much into Simon making a full comeback because he is past his prime and the fighters in the middleweight division are much better than what they were in 2002.

Sounds like Simon has a drug or alcohol problem and regardless of that, he can get help and even if that was the case you can't condone reckless behavior. |

I think he really did win that one. But that aside, it would be funny if that were in his bio. That he thought he "won that one, too."
I remember Jake LaMotta once saying in an interview that he felt that he was robbed of a decision. He's reasoning was, "I knocked the guy down. You usually always get the next round or two automatically afterward when you knock a guy down." I realize that type of thinking won't do Winky any good because he doesn't knock anyone down. At least not in the ring, anyway. |

Winky has never lost a round in his mind ... he would have been top of the world as the undisputed MW champion if he had just fought the last two rounds ... the mirror is an ugly place for Ronald.
