Contender - Season 3
I was just reading Dan Rafael's notebook and the list for the upcoming season of the Contender has been released. This time they are focusing on the SMW division. They have dropped Tommy Gallagher and Jeremy Williams as trainers and added Buddy McGirt and Pepe Correa. Also to point out that more of the fights will be shown during the episode broadcasts and as a bonus these fights will also be broadcasted in their entirety on ESPN.
This roster looks pretty darn good to me and is way better in the fact that more prospects and hopefuls are mixed with veterans looking for that second chance. • Max Alexander (26, Camden, N.J., 14-1, 2 KOs). • David Banks (24, Portland, Ore., 14-2-1, 2 KOs). • Sakio Bika (28, Sydney, Australia, via Cameroon, 22-3-2, 14 KOs). • Henry "Sugar Poo" Buchanan (28, Capital Heights, Md., 14-1, 11 KOs). • La Farrell Bunting (27, Las Vegas, 16-3-1, 16 KOs). • Jaidon Codrington (23, New York, 16-1, 12 KOs). • Miguel Hernandez (32, Chicago, 20-5, 10 KOs). • Wayne Johnson (29, Lyndhurst, N.J., 16-1, 9 KOs). • Donny McCrary (24, St. Joseph, Mo., 23-5-2, 13 KOs). • Les Ralston (25, Buffalo, N.Y., 16-2, 9 KOs). • Danny Santiago (34, Ocala, Fla., 29-3-1, 19 KOs). • Paul Smith (24, Liverpool, England, 20-0, 12 KOs). • Sam Soliman (33, Melbourne, Australia, 33-9, 13 KOs). • Brian Vera (26, Austin, Texas, 14-0, 9 KOs). • Rhoshii Wells (30, Las Vegas, 18-2-2, 10 KOs). • Rubin Williams (31, Detroit, 29-2-1, 16 KOs). |

They have a guy nicknamed Sugar Poo this is already the best season of the Contender. I like the roster alot more then last years. I'm looking forward to the start of the season.

If they do HWs, I hope they go with HWs that are smaller (210-230lbs) and in shape. I don't want to see 16 beached whales flopping around the ring.
And having Buddy McGirt as a trainer for the show is awesome. I've always had respect for him as a trainer and it'll be really neat to see what he's like in the gym. |

I think out all the guys ESPN got for "The Contender", there is only one guy that seems unworthy of the spot and that is Danny "Bronx Bomber" Santiago. He'll probably be one of the first ones eliminated.
Most of the guys that are on the list were showcased by a majority of the cable networks that air boxing in the last year. Glad to see guys like Bika and Soliman getting a chance to break through after being in the top 10-15 for the last few years. |

I'm glad that they finally decided to start airing the whole fights. Hopefully during the broadcasts they get rid of all the replays, sound effects, and the rest of the garbage they had before.

See I don't know Wells or Williams but you can add
Bunting - was in the Shotime SMW tourney with Buchanan McCrary - knocked Allen Green almost out but then lost to Green in the 7th round or so Paul Smith - big time UK prospect |

Rubin Williams lost to Jeff Lacy back in March of 2005. He also has good wins against Richard Grant, Kenny Bowman, and Tony Menefee. He last fought in January of this year, a draw with Antwun Echols, so Williams must have been a late addition to the show. |
