Tye Fields vs Hasim Rahman!

Assuming he gets by 12-6 Domonic Jenkins on Thursday night, 6'10" fringe contender Tye Fields appears to be seeking a fight against former WBC champ Hasim Rahman later this year. Think it would be an excellent match-up, and definitely a step-up for the giant, who could better positon himself for a potential title shot with a victory. Hope it happens.

Only reason why Tye Fields is facing the inferior Domonic Jenkins is because both Kali Meehan and Cedric Boswell both pulled out of the fight within a span of a month.

This would probably be Rahman's last chance to make a statement in the HW division. If he can't come into a fight in decent shape and ended up losing to Fields, he might as well retire.

Tye has a legitimate shot of beating Rahman. "Rock" is an old, shot, out of shape HW who has looked like dog crap in his last three fights. If Tye can lands one of his bombs on Rahman's suspect chin, it could be all she wrote.

I would definitely be rooting for Tye in a match-up with Rahman. Have been waiting for the big guy to step up for years, and a win over Hasim, even the current version, would look good on his resume'. Think that pursuing this fight would be a move in the right direction for Fields.

Looks like Mr. Fields was victorious tonight, stopping late sub Jenkins in 7. Boxrec is reporting that, with the win, he will face former heavyweight champ Rahman in what is being billed as, "The Battle of Las Vegas." Should be interesting.

I saw the fight and Fields went in there and did his job while Jenkins was just there for the payday and showed no desire to put up a real fight. He quit on his stool at the start of round seven.

That being said, Tye Fields is obviously quite slow due to his size and has no defense whatsoever. On the positive side, he has excellent stamina, good workrate and has a decent punch but he'll never knock anyone out with one shot like his number of KO's suggest.

Agree completely with your analysis of Fields. As for his 88% KO pct., it has come against competition with an overall .572 winning mark. Not exactly stellar competition, thus the high knockout rate with less than Wlad-type power.

Good assessment .. anyone with a right hand can hit Fields.

If Jenkins had the will and desire to fight last night, he could have given Fields all he could handle. There were times where he threw the right hand and it was landing. The reality of it was that Jenkins and his corner were there for the payday and conceded defeat before the fight even started.

What I saw of Rahman recently was a man who had no desire to do anything but clinch. I want to like Tye Fields because he's a freak of nature, but is he fast enough to keep Rahman from grabbing? At this point in Rahman's career I'm not sure he actually has any inside game; he just took Chris Farley's advice in Tommy Boy to heart. Seriously... right now he represents the worst aspects of the heavyweight division. Who really wants to see that garbage?

Instead, how about Fields vs. Grant Long's brother? Okay, so Julius has not stood up well to recent competition (well, he lasted into the 12th against Samuel Peter, which is worth something I guess), but it's not like Tye Fields is a serious contender anyway. Somebody can come out with a new organization called the WTO (World Tallness Organization) and they can fight for that belt. Perhaps we can bring Manute Bol out of retirement. The man killed a lion! That shows heart.
