Wlad out until 2008!

Fightnews is reporting that IBF/IBO world heavyweight champion Wladimir Klitschko will not return to the ring in 2007. The reasons being stated are: lack of available opponents for a big money bout, and HBO has already blown their budget for the year. Next title defense looks to be no sooner that February of 2008.

Guess us Klitschko fans will have to settle for older brother Vitali's September 22nd bout with Jameel McCline to tide us over. Would also be nice if big bro got his WBC title shot before years' end.

Stay tuned...

I cannot believe that there isnt a big money fight out there for Wlad. Is it the fact there isnt one or the fact that there isnt one that would assure Wlad of a win? I like Wlad don't get me wrong and i think he would beat most of the contenders out there and have a good chance of beating the rest that might give him a fight. How about some of the experts weighing in on this?

Wald is simply facing reality here - That being the HW division is tremendously down right now......From top to bottom the worst I've seen since I started closely following boxing in the late 70's....without a doubt in my mind.

And that isn't any spin about always liking older fighters better. IMO, it is simply a reality right now in boxing....among most divisions outside of a few...

Should Wald still look to fight and stay busy....I'd say yes, that would be best for him as a fighter.

This is somewhat old news .. HBO doesn't have any more slots or money for the year. So his only option would be PPV and the only one worth selling PPV is with Samuel Peter and that isn't happening this year.

Chagaev's pulled out of the Iggy fight so he is either hurt or his vagina is hurting him so that is off. Valuev would need a win or two to be a big fight and both Iggy and Oleg have title matches alrady.

Not sure there is a HW out there right now that he wouldn't be a heavy favorite against.

I thought he had a broken hand as well. It will give time for the four man tourney to play out. McCline is making a great living at being a decent opponent now. The "Giant" (Valuev), is fighting Jean-Francois Bergeron from Canada. I assume that the Giant will maul him to death since he (Bergeron) doesn't punch well.

LOL. Good one Mike!

But from what I read, Chagaev got hurt in traning. There is talk of having Ibragimov/Chagaev unification once he heals and if Sultan gets past Holyfield.

Hopefully these are the kind of situations/problems we will face in the RPG?

Maybe not all of them in this version but down the road I'd love to see fights not being made because there is no TV money left for the year. Or have your fighter prepare for one fighter only to have them pull out 2 weeks prior.
