PPV Sat. night?

Anyone getting that card, I think it's $25.

I'm not paying to see David Tua so it looks like I have to wait for Sept. to see fights on Sat. again.

Too bad, they could have had fights on the 18th & 25th - before college football starts up again.

The only remotely interesting fight on that card was Williams/Mesi but "Baby Joe" pulled out of the fight with a back injury. Ironically, he pulled out of another card claiming the same injury a few months back. I think the Mesi camp knew that Sherman was a live underdog and too much of a risk, so they decided to pull the plug on the fight.

I don't buy into the fact that Joe is 100% healed. Cerebral hematomas are a permanent injury. Two years of rest does not change his condition.

Prior to the Jirov fight, Mesi was having severe headaches. I was reading a few articles on cerebral hematomas and sometimes the symptoms do not show up until months later. From my understanding, it definitely seems like Mesi suffered the injury in a prior fight but the punishment he took against Jirov must have made the damage worse because he suffered an additional brain bleed in almost the same spot.

I'm glad the fight with Williams is not happening because he's not the type of fighter that would just lie down for Mesi and it looked like he definitely had a good chance of winning the fight.

* I had to quit amateur boxing due to sever headaches and that was in 1991. Basically, every time I got hit in the head, I suffered a mini concussion. I sparred a few weeks ago against someone who couldn't punch and was only hit in the head 10 times in three rounds but had a headache for a week. Once you have a brain injury, you have it for life. Mesi is risking getting killed in the ring. If the Jirov fight would have been a 12 rounder, Mesi would have been KO'd and maybe worse.

Mesi needs to quit before something tragic happens to him. If he really wants to stay involved in the sport, he should become a trainer and pass his knowledge on to young fighters. I'm surprised his dad hasn't stepped in and talked to Joe about retirement. No legit boxing commission is going to give him a license so it's pointless to even to keep fighting and risking getting severely injured or worse.

* He did a good job on ESPN2 a while ago. I think that might be his calling. He could do the training thing too. I wish someone would replace Lennox Lewis on HBO, he doesn't offer anything.

Gee, I guess you don't enjoy Lennox just repeating everything that Lampley says. Maybe HBO can bring back 'ol George Foreman and his big fake smile to join them.

The only boxer/trainer side kick I can tolerate is Steward and he plays both sides of the fence in a fight. Roy Jones and Sugar Ray loved themselves too much. They fired Jones because he wouldn't appear for production meetings. George was lousy and barely made any sense. I can't stand the young guy (Max) either, the is far too negative. He reminds me to much of Gray from showtime. I like Bob Papa....I can deal with Lampley, he is smooth with words. I might be in the minority but I like Merchant.

Teddy Atlas is pretty good but his, "this fight will define the rest of your life" statements for each round of a fight is getting a bit old. I've always like Sean O'Grady the best. I loved Tuesday night fights back in the day.

Every boxing analyst has some sort of quirk that can get irritating from time to time. Bob Papa and Sean O'Grady are probably the cream of the crop in regards to calling a fight. Atlas and Steward have an uncanny knack for playing devils advocate and giving the fans an idea of the strategy a fighter would use during a fight but Teddy's superatives and cliches are tired and dried up.

Lennox Lewis really offers nothing to the HBO commentating team and it's surprising because he is a former undisputed champion and you figure he would offer some insight during the telecasts but he's nothing but a "yes man" for Lampley and Merchant, always agreeing with them instead of having an original thought or perspective.

You said it about Lewis, he rambles on about some point he's trying to make but talks so long, he seems to forget what point he was trying to make at times.

Gotta chime in here about the HBO guys as well - I hate Lennox. I wish he was gone. Give Steward more time as he is often insightful. I have no probs with Lampley and I think Papa is good too. Max Kellerman is tolerable. I think he does an excellent radio show in NYC but I have yet to feel the same way about his work ringside.

I don't know what happened to the other play by play guy they had earlier this year for BAD but he was awful too.

My last pay for view was Spinks-Tyson. I vowed NEVER EVER EVER to plunk down a stack of money to see 34 seconds of 1 punch.

Give me Frank the Animal Fletcher on ABC Wide World of Sports....LOL....

Tua KO'ed Montana with 45 seconds left in the first round. I'm sure that was a well spent $25 dollars for the suckers who bought it.

Yeah really.

Moorer blew some guy away in one round last Thursday too - don't know if that was PPV too?

I doubt it. "Double M" KO'ed Rich Boruff, a 36 year old heavyweight who had a six year layoff between 2001 and this year. The fight took place in Panama.

Getting back to that miserable excuse for a PPV on Saturday, it took Roman Greenberg nine rounds to dispose of blown up, journeyman CW Damon Reed. Now they are talking about having him fight Joe Mesi. God help us all if that takes place.
