Contender Finale
I thought it was a good, closely contested fight...until Jaidon was KO'ed!
Sakio was the better fighter--better skilled--better coached--and his nerves were in check. I posted on the ESPN Contender site a few times, and it seemed as though everyone else that was posting on that site was from Queens and rooting for Jaidon because of his personal story. They all looked past the fact that Jaidon does not have any defense whatsoever. Adjust your ratings accordingly folks! |

Codrington has nothing to be ashamed of. He does need to work on his defense but considering this was his first fight against a top flight guy, he did fairly well. He still has a lot of potential and i'm expecting him to win a world title down the line either at SMW or LHW.
Congratulations to Sakio Bika on a great performance and winning "Contender 3". The only knock on him is that he throws too many wide punches. He's definitely a good test for any of the contenders or title holders. Not sure if he will ever win that world title I predicted for him. |

Just saw this . .
I thought Bika won every round after the first Dick Flahery as ref? It took Jaidon walking away . . no, that wasn't it exactly . .his momentum carrying him in an uncontrolled direction . . . before he stopped it. What took so long??? Also, thought Bika could have lost a point or two for taking a couple swipes at Jaidon while he was down . . . Shame on the broadcasters for not even mentioning it . . and for saying about a million times it was an all-time great fight . . . Brian Kenny said something like it was the best fight he had ever seen, live or even on TV . . c'mon now

Very good fight ... Codrington has nothing to be ashamed of at all. I think the announcers were told by higher ups to talk as if it was the greatest fight ever .. as it was it was one of the top 5 on ESPN this year.
I can't believe no one mentioned the two cheap shots Bika threw either ... also that no one mentioned that it was a slip not a KD. If you watch the replay, Jaidon pivoted and his left foot slipped right out from under him. This was a case on inexperience more than anything else. How many times has Jaidon been 8 rounds .. he was exhausted. I'd like to see him stay with McGirt. Buddy was telling him the right things to do, it'd be nice if he had a chance to teach him. Codrington was very very tight also. I agree I think he will win one of the 4 major titles down the road. Funny how they were all over Pepe's F bomb but failed to mention obvious things happening in the fight itself. |

Good Fight
This was about the first time I have sat down and watched a TV fight from start to finish for awhile (usually I am more interested in the bout I am playing in TBCB2), and obviously this was one that grabbed my attention. Bika clearly deserved to win, but as the announcers said, it could have gone the other way as Codrington always seemed to have a punchers chance.

Codrington was extremely nervous and since this was his first fight against a real world class opponent, it's understandable. I hope McGirt and Codrington continue to work together. Buddy was giving him the right knowledge and i'm sure if they got to work together full time, it would definitely spell success for "The Don".
Also another thing.........was it me or was Teddy on Bika's jock the whole fight? It seemed like the big wheels at ESPN really wanted Sakio to win which is completely ridiculous considering that Jaidon is more marketable and it would be better to cash in on the younger fighter. |

I'm curious to see who they cast for the show. There are a ton of HW's that fit the criteria that ESPN/SRL would be looking for. They definitely need to bring in a few from the eastern bloc. Whoever they would bring in from the US would be very compelling. TJ Wilson and Dominick Guinn immediately come to mind.

Arreola and David Haye would be huge gets .. they usually bring in a few that are trying to come back so Guinn would be a good one .. how about David Tua?
I agree with a few from the eastern bloc. |

Tua would be a good grab but i'm not sure if he has the desire to take a competition like "The Contender" seriously.
There plenty of undefeated American HW prospects that need to get some exposure and to see if they are really worth all the hype. J.D. Chapman is 28-0 but has faced no one of note. Same thing goes for Alonzo Butler who is 29-0. I doubt they are anything special but you get the point. |

I rather thought these kind of guys were the reason behind the whole show in the first place. Although I never paid much attention to this show until this season and that was because of Sam Soliman, so maybe a name or two isn't a bad idea.

They usually have prospects and veterans trying to get back into the spotlight ... problem with season 2 is that they had too many veterans. Season 3 had a pretty good mix. I think if they really promote both Bika and esp. Codrington now it will help their cause.
Esp. with Manfredo and Mora burning out now. Gomez is really the only one left from the previous years with a bright future. Did I hear them right on the broadcast that Manfredo is fighting Lacy? I know Lacy will be on the Hatton-Mayweather undercard. This doesn't look like too good of a fight for Manfredo, even with Lacy coming off a year out with a shoulder problem. |
