Repeat Challengers?
Do you guys ever find the same guys hanging around your top ten and earning title shots? Just curious. Some guys just seem to win enough to hang in there, and when a slot opens up because guys above are not viable, for whatever reason, these guys guys are there. I usually ignore them if they've already had a shot, but some of them have these really persistent managers who harp on their boy's recent win streak until I cave and set something up just to get rid of them.

Cap, that seems to be the case for the most part in certain divisions. but at times I do ignore the top ten, and have gotten some of the following results.
1. Cleveland Williams sored a one-punch KO of Muhammad Ali in round 11. 2. Mustafa Hamsho defeating Carlos Monzon. Don't ask, I can't figure it out either, and many others. Greg

I would have to say that I am surprised at how long and effective HW Tom Sharkey, Ireland, rated "8", 24-5-0 (21), ranked 8th in world, has been. He continues to stick around in the top 25 and even held a major title, IBF, by defeating Muhammad Ali (TKO3)(cuts). Not saying that Sharkey isnt a good fighter, just making the point that as a rated "8" HW, he is probably the lowest rated fighter to continuously hover in the rankings of fighters rated between 10-15 that are typically present in my top 25 world rankings.

I see the same guys hanging around a lot but it is supposed to be that way. Seems when they lose it's to another top fighter so they don't lose that many points. I do like when the occasional huge upset happens and then you have to watch the guy try and climb back up.
Happened in my uni when Sunny Jim upset Sam McVey. My policy is the title fight is against the highest ranked fighter scheduled to fight who won his last fight ... so it does often venture out of the top 10. |
