Favourite fighter of all time

I'm curious of which fighter you would pick as your absolute favourite fighter (you only get to pick one fighter).

My all time favourite is Marvin Hagler. The man was a monster of fighter. He fought and beat just about everyone that mattered at the time. Imo he could very well be the best MW ever.Another trait that makes him my #1 is that he has always been a class act.

I know he's not world class but Micky Ward is my favorite fighter of all time. His fights with Green, Neary, Augustus, and the trilogy with Gatti were classics.

I'm going to cheat and name two guys, by making a distinction between guys I've seen fight and guys I haven't seen. Among the latter I'd say Sugar Boy Nando because I've always viewed him as a boxing everyman. Fought professionally in four decades, was a ranked fighter in his prime, and just seems to me to epitimize a pro fighter.

For much the same reason, among fighters that I've seen I'd say Joey Giardello. Joey began fighting before I was born, was a ranked fighter throughout my young life when I was in grammar school, won a title when I was in high school, and was still punching when I got into College. A quality pro for a long, long time.

For me it's Mike Tyson. He burst onto the scene when I was just getting into boxing [1986] and he blew me away. I can still remember how the hairs on the back of my neck used to stand on end when he was being introduced by Michael Buffer before his fights.

I will have to go with Boom Boom Mancini also. He fought at a time when i enjoyed watching fights and you could see quality fights on free TV.

I too would have to go with Mike Tyson. I have the Tyson dvd and when you go back and see those early fights he was just a different fighter. The speed and awareness at all times of what was going on in the ring just awesome! I could not wait to see his fights back then and always hoped during each comeback that somehow that dominance would return. Many to choose from but Mike just sticks out!

Mancini and the Tommy Hearns by a mile. Boom Boom for his heart and the Hitman, because minus an average chin was the epitome of a Boxer/Slugger. If he had Hagler's chin he would have likely never been beaten.

Of recent vintage, I'd say George Chuvalo, despite never winning a world title. He'd likely have one if he were fighting now. He was a working man's fighter.

My favorite has to be Kid Gavilan! He was an exciting boxer with outstanding left jab, who fought leading middleweights successfully while only a few pounds over the welterweight limit. He also scored some surprising KO’s while not noted for his hitting power. His list of opponents included the who’s who of boxing as he never ducked anyone during his era. His chin has to be one of the best in boxing, although his defense certainly helped. You could make a strong argument that he is one of the best 5 welterweights of all time!!

I'll stick to the format of the question and go with Arturo Gatti, but Ray Leonard is pretty close.

Other guys I rooted for: Marlon Starling, Roy Jones, Sean O'Grady, JC Superstar, Gerry Cooney, Manny Pacquiao, Kelly Pavlik, and oddly at various point of their career three heavyweights who fought each other Riddick Bowe, Evander Holyfield and Lennox Lewis (pretty much in that chronological order).

Those are just guys that I saw in their primes. I'm a big Ali guy, but he was at the end when I saw him live.

For whatever reason, some fighters I never cared for: Mike Tyson, Thomas Hearns, Pernell Whitaker and Felix Trinidad.
