Regina Halmich

Halmich is to defend her title for the 45th time tonight in what is expected to be her last bout. She is an all-time great.

Agreed.

It's too bad that she has fought primarily only in Germany and is little known in the the US.

She is clearly an all-time great. Hope she goes out with a win.........(I have wondered, she was taken to a very close (MD or SD) victory last year or the year before......Why was there never a rematch?

Regina Halmich will be remembered as one of the top 5-10 p4p female boxers of all time. I really wanted to see her face Susi Kentikian but it was pretty clear that she wanted to end her career on a positive note.

Halmich will more than likely win a wide UD against Shmoulefeld Finer to cap off a HOF career.

In a closer fight than expected, Regina Halmich won a majority decision against Hagar Shmoulefeld Finer. Scorecards were 97-94, 95-95, and 96-94.

Boy...reading the after reports of this fight.......Sounds like Halmich was given a huge gift decision...(even many within the German press are saying such). That Finer won 8 rounds at minimum....

This isn't the first time that Halmich was handed a gift decision in a fight she clearly lost. From all accounts.....most of the German press had Finer winning by at least three or four points.

IMO Halmich lost the first fight with Elena Reid but the judges ruled it a draw. Also, there were a few other fights where she got the benefit of "hometown" scoring.

I only saw the end of the fight, but at least the (usually notoriously biased) German commentators had Halmich ahead. Not that it means much.

This is very true. The first Reid fight was an absolute disgrace -- one of the worst cases I've seen in Germany during the last years. Even the audience was booing the decision.

At the end of the day Regina posed in German's Playboy so that alone is worth a few points on the judges score cards! LOL

Most of the written press had Finer winning the fight. ZDF has been known to give Universum fighters oral no matter how poorly they perform.
