Latin Fury PPV card
Pretty good card overall.
In the first bout I'm still trying to figure out how Clark broke his hand 10 seconds into the fight without throwing a punch. Almost seems like maybe he broke it earlier and needed the payday instead of pulling out of the fight. Juan Esquer made a name for himself. He gave Calderon all he could handle and will be fun to watch from here on out. I had it 116-112 Calderon just because he was too fast and too hard to hit. One judge had it 118-110 which was a joke. Awesome body punch by Arce ended the bout with Singsurat. Not sure what this proved because Singsurat looked out of shape and just looking for a payday but he took a helluva shot to get it. JCC Jr. moved a big step forward in his progression. He took on a guy who was willing to fight back and was in the fight before JCC ended it in brutal fashion. JCC seems to be able to take a punch well. He needs to learn how to cut off the ring better because he just kind of followed Sanchez around the ring when Sanchez was on his bike. One funny moment though after the third round, Sanchez got back to his stool and was bleeding badly from his nose, he had just taken a beating in the last 10 seconds of the round and his eye were wide open like he'd seen a ghost. His trainer says "You're doing good" and the look on Sanchez's face was priceless. It was like are you watching the fight, do you see my face. |

Thanks for the write up......I didn't get a chance to see any of these yet.....
Juan Esquer, performed well then.......(noted). Calderon is a hell of a pure boxer.....But he is getting up there (he's 30ish I believe)...and he'll be fighting stronger guys since moving up from SW..... Clearly a good win for JCC Jr.- Exactly what you want to see out of a guy at this stage....That he stepped up....was in a real fight ....didn't fold and finished his guy in the end.... |

Calderon is a bit past his prime IMO. He has struggled in his last three fights and i'm not sure how much longer he can compete at a real high level. That being said, Calderon was one of the best SW's in the world during a five year period in the early to mid 2000's (02-06).

A prime Calderon Vs R. Lopez at SW would have been an interesting fight.......Though I think Lopez wins this one by late TKO or UD....(Lopez jab would have given Calderon lots of problems with how he fights)...

I was impressed with Esquer but who knows if he can take a good punch or not. Calderon is hell to look good against, but Esquer forced the action and did a decent job of cutting him off. Esquer was so sure he had won the fight too, but it was a good decision except for the one guy who scored it 118-110.
