Light-Heavyweight division champions

Last night Australia's Danny Green won the WBA LHW title against Stipe Drews. Now I haven't been following the division that closely in recent times but looking at the rankings on boxrec, all of the current champs in the big three alphabet organisations won the title after Glen Johnson (IBF) and Antonio Tarver (WBA and WBC) were either stripped of them or vacated them. Hopkins is #1 but he's only fought for the IBO version of the title and is about to step down to SMW.

To me this is just another example of how badly our sport needs someone to step in and regulate the world championship situation.

Outside source regulations (espeically Gov't) only cause more issues (and money!...at the fighters and customers expense).....

Reality is turnover is good for the sport now and then. THat is what we are seeing the the LHW division.......Also, G. Johnson, Tarver nor Hopkins are the best at LHW...and so they choose bigger money fights instead of losing their titles in the ring (sans Hopkins here).

Which is fine for them....and fine for the LHW division.

Nice win by Danny Green....

I watched it last night and was impressed with Danny Green, but was suitably unimpressed with Drews, who was lucky to have thrown a punch all night. Anyways, well done Danny Green, well deserved.

Idiot Mundine has come out and put his foot in his mouth again, calling Green a "paper champion" because Drews didn't put up much of a fight. This coming from one of the most bogus title holders in all of boxing.

Mundine's title reign is a complete joke. He's fought manditory challengers in five of his last seven fights.

On the other hand, Green just beat a world title holder in convincing fashion. Drews was just there for the payday and he spent a majority of the fight throwing feeble punches and running laps in the ring.

That being said, congrats to Danny Green on a well deserved victory. Would love to see him face that other LHW "paper champ" Zsolt Erdei.

Mundine's sour grapes probably stem from the fact the he beat Green last year in a WBA SMW eliminator. In order to settle the whole, "paper champion" claim, I say they hook up again for the LH belt. Would be a huge fight if it were held down under like their last encounter.

I would love to see Green Vs Mundine up at LHW.......SMW was fit to Mundine (and Green was cutting too much weight).....Pluse Green fought the wrong type fight.....

I'd give Green a much better shot at LHW Vs Mundine......Let's hope it happens. And like you said, big money for both guys Down Under for this rematch....

I think Green would beat Mundine rather easily at LHW. Their fight at SMW was a fluke because Green had trouble making weight. I'd love to see him shut Mundine's mouth for good.

I disagree, I don't think Mundine is an easy fight for Green at all. I think it would be more interesting at 175, but Mundine is much much quicker and slicker than Green.

Looks like Mundine is going to have to wait. Fightnews is reporting that the WBA has stipulated Hugo Garay of Argentina as as Green's mandatory. The fight is to take place no later than April 16, 2008.

Green/Garay should be a very interesting fight. Big puncher vs. Iron chin. I would definitely favor Green to win but Garay should not be counted out.

Mundine will be busy as well, preparing for another manditory defense of his WBA SMW title. He'll be facing his close friend and "brother" Nader Hamdan.
