Pavlik lost his jab ?

I tried out a dream fight of Pavlik vs Calzaghe, and it appears that Pavlik only threw 23 jabs ?!?!?

Styles make fights. I think anyone who's seen Pavlik fight knows he's going to hit you with the left jab all night, and follow with the power right hands.

Just seems odd to me.

Like the board game "type of punch" is really just window dressing in this game. We have made changes to the commentary to try and limit the knockdowns from jabs but for the type of punches to really mean anything there would have to be a change to the engine ... which is quite a ways off.

Tendencies

What is the extent of player tendencies in the game ? I did a Pavlik vs Calzaghe match, and Pavlik barely jabbed and used fare more uppercuts than he should have.

I love the game, but styles make fights... If Pavlik isn't doing what he does best, it's not much of a simulation.

Kessler vs Calzaghe - Watch any of Kesslers other fights, then this, does seem very low though.. I'm not sure it has something to do with the ratings, but i'm not the man to describe that.

I'll have to try the fight again, but I saw alot more uppercuts than I would think I'd expect from him. I just can't see Pavlik ignoring the jab.

I can concede that maybe the jab wouldn't be as effective against Calzaghe, but in his last fight he threw 484 jabs. Landed about 30% of them.

Does the game factor in punch type tendencies ? Maybe this is just a bug.

Ok, punch totals in general seem really low. I did another fight and got about the same thing. Pavlik throws alot of punches and is very active. I can't imagine that Calzaghe could stop him from doing so, given that he has like a 2 inch reach advantage.

Ah, that explains it.

I started coding a little simulation in flash/Actionscript 3 last night, and I'm beginning to see that simulating boxing is no small feat. The sweet science has alot of factors.
