Anthony Mundine
I was just watching Current TV and saw this story. It doesn't have a lot to do with Boxing, but it's an interesting story about Aboriginal injustice and the ghettos that have emerged in New South Wales because of it.

Good to see Mundine trying to help out and be a role model of sorts. I'm from Victoria not from New South Wales so I've never been to Redfern, however most Aborigals that I've met are nice people. When I worked in the Maximum Security, Pentridge Prison in Coburg, I do remember the Aboriginal gaol population was dis-proportionatly higher than any other race.

Mundine is a real paradox. He's supposedly a great guy when you get to know him but makes some absolutely stupid, moronic statements at times. I'm sure you'll all remember his comments in the aftermath of 9/11. He recently bad-mouthed one of Australia's greatest athletes, 400 metre gold medallist Cathy Freeman. She's also aboriginal and Mundine accused her of selling out to corporate Australia and forgetting her people, which is completely bogus.
Of course, the fact that he was promoting one of his fights at the time had nothing to do with it. ![]() |
