Liven up your fictional universe -- Try free Facegen
I've found Facegen to be a nice tool that can help bring fictional boxing universes to life.
The DVD that came with a recent issue of PC Utilities magazine contained a special free version of Facegen. This particular version differs from the old Facegen demo that I used to use in that it lets you save/export the faces you create. The faces still have that 'SI' stamped on the forehead, but it takes only a couple minutes with any photo editing software to cover it up. Then convert the faces with IR fanview or something else, and you're set. |

Here's a few examples...
I can't figure out how to get rid of the "SI" on the forehead - I probably don't have the right photo software.

Apparently the free version does not let you put hair on the pictures, so they will all be bald w/ an SI tattoo on their foreheads making them look like members of a cult...

Okay so my question (don't have time to look right now) is how much is the software for what we would need? Depending on the cost maybe as a group we could pick up the software and put together a face gen database that those who did not contribute to the intial purchase would have to pay a subsciption fee to be a part of. This way there would be some additional revenue for those that would be doing the face generating to compensate them for their time. Just an idea to help boost the interest.

Took a quick look at the cost of the software to be able to use the faces in the game and resell them and it looks like the cost is $995. I gotta believe there would be 50 of us that could throw in for the intial software at $20 a pop and then setup some kind of face package that people could purchase (who were not in on the intial purchase) for $20 or something. Just throwing out ideas and numbers for people to think about.

I think that Andreas said facegen wasn't going to be in the game because of cost and that most likely points to the fact that this game doesn't sell a lot of units. One can extrapolate this means there isn't a large user base, which is unfortunate.

All you have to do is zoom in on the face, copy a rectangle from a part of the face without the SI, paste it over the SI, and save. Of course you don't have to make faces for all 342,603 fighters in your universe. I just do it for the top ranked guys in each weight class. Or, a tomato can to whom I've become attached. While setting up my European Union grouping I discovered that my uni has a British TC named Jim Mullet, and of course THAT guy just had to have a face... It doesn't take that much time to create faces, and for me, it does add to the immersion factor. The fact that FaceGen doesn't create hair is a problem, but the MGI software I use or even Paint might be useful in that regard. The free version of FaceGen that I am referring to does let you create goatees and beards. |

You can get some nice results with the free version of FaceGen and a simple photo editing software package. PC Utilities magazine is a good source of freeware for retouching your images.
Introducing German heavyweight Gotz Hipper and DR Congo heavyweight Joe Gardner. Making FaceGen faces for your fictional universe is a nice late-night, after-a few-drinks project. ![]() |
