It is a sign of the times ... your boys from the 80's would be exactly the same now. It is like that in every sport because they no longer have to rise to the top to be uber millionaires. Wasn't the Hearns fight the first time SRL earned a million? Maybe the Duran fight ... now, SRL would have gotten 1 million a fight by his 10th fight.
There isn't the need to fight for your food anymore (at the top level) so they don't risk anything. There is very little chance SRL vs. Hearns happens in today's landscape.
Edit: SRL was also guided by endorsements, where as he wouldn't have those today.
