I've read people say Second & Ten by Roogames was good, I don't have that one yet. |

Owen that would depend on what you are looking for in either game. Do you want a stat based quick sim type of game or do you want something a bit more immersive. FOF is a great game that allows you to be the GM and coach if you want to be. You will do everything from call plays to run your draft war room and negotiate contracts. Great game but very little graphical appeal (i kinda like this). On the college sports side their is TCY or Bowl Bound. TCY is by the same maker as FOF but i was never really able to get into it. Bowl Bound is deep and good graphically (no player animations though). You can call plays and will go on the recruiting trail each year.
Second and Ten is great for a historical sim whether you like the college or pro side. From what i remember the pro game had quite a bit more past seasons. Hope that helps feel free to fire away with questions. |

Strat-O-Matic makes a pro and college football game that may satisfy your needs. While it does not match Madden's graphics (who does?) it is a good combination of text and an interactive gridiron screen that shows the teams in O's and triangles with player names and team colors. Teams are based on yearly statistics. You can play a season or make your own. You can also play individual game matchups. To sim a season would take a few minutes depending on the speed of your computer. If you play a pro season, you can create a playoff league to play that post-season's teams. The college game actually will rank teams BCS style during the during the season.

The table game version of SOM football is my favorite football sim by far. But it does take a couple of hours to play. The computer game is much more streamlined, as you'd expect. |

Best Pro Football sim ever made was (and still is, IMO) Football Pro (by Sierra) Either Pro 96,97 or 98 - (99 was the last version ever made...and had many flaws......97 or 98 are the best).
It had decent graphics......but came with a very dynamic AI (in which after years of play the Computer AI could still put up a great game.....and would actually "adjust" to your gameplay style)...... It had a game/play editor that was top-notch as well - Last edited by meade95 : 06-12-2008 at 03:45 PM. |

I will second Meade on Football Pro. That game was light years ahead of its time on many levels.
Bowl Bound is not tied to the Avalon Hill game which by the way was awesome. I really loved the old Bowl Bound but with the computer version you will not get the historical replay is that is what you are looking for. |
