re: Don King
Played it on the 360 and found not as good so far as Fight Night.
Some of the training is pressing the correct button in order i.e. guitar hero and it goes pretty fast so no real boxing technique required. The boxing itself the graphix are not anything new and I end up just pressing different buttons as the controls seem to have a life of themselves. Press for one jab and sometimes you jab twice.... No cut man or damage to fighter inbetween rounds. Will play further to see if it grows on me but imo would look at online reviews or wait until the price comes down if many people decide its not to their liking. I hope this helps you. Neil |

career mode
I just started but you dont get any points to give your fighter you only get to change its appearance. I would have loved for being able to adjust the fighter when created but you have to do the training i.e. button bashing to improve about 5 stats for the fighter.....the likes of stamina...speed....power....
Will play a bit more and post again if it gets better or if some more options come available as the fighter progresses... Neil |

Rented it today. I've only played a few fights through the career mode but I'd say I'm extremely unimpressed. I do think it's a step back from even Fight Night. The main issue above everything is the collision detection seems way off, punches just seem way off. It's really hard to gauge any sort of distance because of how it works.
Overall it's just not fluid at all. It feels jerky. Combos seem to work a bit better than in Fight Night, but it doesn't feel realistic. The documentary stuff for the story mode is a novel idea, but nothing spectacular. I'd say it's a rental at best, and I doubt I even bother firing it up again. I might try doing a couple of exhibition fights with the real fighters and see if they act anything like their real life counterparts, but I'm not holding out hope. |

It's ok nothing great. The Career mode is novel how its being done but its a linear story.Great fight presentations. Game play is off a little I do like how you can't button mash you have to watch your stamina and use a little more strategy. There definately is a learning curve from fight night. As a boxing fan had to give it a go. Definately alot more fun when fighting a live opponent over the comp

I got it. The only thing that's bad about the game is the collision detection. Sometimes, it's comically bad, but it's something I am sure I can get used to (I have before with other sports games). I like the controls. I don't think they are sluggish, but it does something that Fight Night does not. If you are in the middle of throwing a punch in FN, and click the button to throw another punch, it just won't happen. In Prizefighter, it'll queue the punch (unless you are interrupted by getting hit). This makes it seem sluggish, though, if you throw a punch a half second before the previous punch's animation is done. However, this is a problem. This game doesn't seem to have branching animations (or at the very least, no where near enough of it if it does), which seems ridiculous for a boxing game.
So other than the physics and animation problems, I like the game so far. It's far more tactical than Fight Night. There is definitely a learning curve. The training is more skill based (some are Guitar Hero like rhythm mini-games). The training in Fight Night was a joke, I'd get the max score every time. At least with Prizefighter, I feel like I have to work at it. Graphically, I'd say the boxers look better than in Fight Night, but overall the graphics were better in FN Round 3. The career mode is essentially the same as Fight Night, except you can train more than once (depends on how many weeks there are before the fight) and there's more to do. It's more in line with Madden's Superstar or NCAA's Race for the Heisman mode. But you are only given a few fighters to choose from and there are no rankings. Anyway, I will agree with the above. I can easily see why someone would not like this game. The physics and animations are not good, and I would suggest renting first. But if they fixed the collision detection, animations, gave us the choice of "documentary" career or open-ended career with rankings, gave us more control schemes and camera angles (only the side view angle), then this game would be great. EDIT: And I almost forgot. The judges scoring in the game is really, really bad. That needs work too (Far too many even scored rounds) Last edited by sabotai : 06-17-2008 at 06:53 PM. |
