It was great to view the site! He fought some great fighters. I'm happy that so much information was preserved and made available!

Awesome, I have done a great deal of reading on Jack Johnson, Joe Jeannette,Sam McVey, and I did a project when I was in grade 10 on Sam Langford, and have long been fascinated, as to how the times could prevent all of these fighters to having an equal shot at becoming heavyweight champion.

Kinda sad when you think about it, especially when you consider that today a fighter can get a title shot after only 18 to 20 fights.

Great site, Mark.
Thanks.
I'm still savoring Clay Moyle's book on Langford which adds to the enjoyment of this site.

I've always spent time wool-gathering about these guys. Also about the grat black ball players from the Negro Leagues. My dad was a great sportsfan. Baseball was his favorite spport, by far. He could watch two kids in a schoolyard play fast pitch for hours because it was a ball game.
Grew up listening to my dad tell me stories about all of these great players that never got a shot in the big leagues. Have been reading anything I could find on these guys since i was very young. Still spend time wondering whar Turkey Stearnes, Devil Wells, and Mule Suttles would have done in the bigs.

Great pics of old New Jersey. A lot of Great Fighters came out of the Jersey area. Joe Jeanette getting that kind of online coverage is great. Most of the early black fighters remained in Jack Johnson's shadow and weren't appreciated by the boxing world until years later. Too bad they didn't have TV back then. The Jeanette - McVey fight was one for the ages. They say that Sam McVey fought in a style similar to Mike Tyson's.
