Valuev/Chagaev cancelled (again)

Ruslan tore his achillies muscle in training. He'll be out quite a while.

Valuev should fight Virchis in an interim title fight. This is becoming just like the Maskaev situation........only worse

If Ruiz gets another crack......that will be a disgrace. How does he stay ranked so high if he barely fights?

Meehan definitely deserves the fight with Valuev. He has stayed active and could give the giant some trouble if he can box from the outside.

If huggybear gets another shot at a title I'll stop watching HW boxing and pretend that division doesn't exist

Ruiz has fought three times since the start of 2006. A lost to Chagaev, and wins over Otis Tisdale and Jameel McCline, and both of them are not ranked by the WBA (at least not in the top 15 that was posted). And going back to Dec 2005, he lost to Valuev.

Meehan is 5-0 since the start of 2006, all stoppages (4 in the 3rd round, one was stopped in between rounds 6 and 7). 1 of them was DaVarryl Williamson, currently ranked 13th by the WBA, the rest are not ranked.

How can anyone make the argument that Ruiz should be ranked higher than Meehan? I honeslty don't see either being #2 and #3 on anyone's list, but if the choice is between them, I can't see how Ruiz is ranked higher.

At this point, they are both dangerous. Meehan owns as good of a right cross as anyone in the division outside of Wlad and Ruiz is crafty. I would rather see Meehan and Valuev....I would give Valuev an edge but Meehan can punch. Meehan has problems with the jab....see Rahman.

From Fightnews.com

"At its Directory Meeting today in Argentina, the WBA has ruled that injured heavyweight champion Ruslan Chagaev will continue as world champion. Chagaev will be considered "champion in recess" and have until June 26, 2009 to defend his belt. The unbeaten Chagaev tore his left achilles tendon during his final sparring session last week and is therefore unable to make his intended title defense against mandatory challenger Nikolai Valuev this Saturday. Valuev's promoter Sauerland Event had sought to have the title vacated following the second postponement of the bout, but the WBA decision will instead give Valuev an opportunity to face John Ruiz for the WBA "regular" title. The Valuev-Ruiz winner would then be obliged to face Chagaev by June 26, 2009 at the latest."

Why can't Ruiz disapear? He is the ****ing herpes of boxing. This settles it for me. The HW division is dead to me until Ruiz quits.

Being the lone John Ruiz fan on this board, I'm glad that he gets another shot at the Giant. Ruiz will plod and grapple his way to a UD win.

In an unprecidented move, the WBA has announced that it will pay a generous fee to anyone willing to attend the Valuev/Ruiz rematch for the Heavyweight championship.

No-Doze and other appropriate legal stimulants will also be provided.

Further details to follow...
