An older version of Title Bout
I had a version of Title Bout back in the late 90's (somewhere around there) that I bought from a retail store in a regular box. I forgot who was on the cover? The game had an overhead view of the ring that showed the ring position along with skin colors representing black, white, asian and hispanic fighters. When a fighter got knocked out, you saw him flat on his back (the overhead view).
While it wasn't what you'd call high tech, it was no worse than the text soccer sims I've seen showing the team and individual player movement on the field. I was wondering if anyone knows if anything like that is planned for future versions of the game or not. You know - showing the ring position or something like that? |

It was by far the best way to represent the fighters in the ring, the appropriate colors, action of the fight, etc, etc. Top-down-view with small animation figures moving about the ring - I have no idea in hell why TBCB took the backward step (that old Lance Haffner original PC games used) of the two guys standing-side-view. Please bring back the Top-Down-view Andreas!! 1. FIX the Stratgey AI 2. Bring back the Top-down-view!! |

Title Fight 99' - that's it. I was as happy as a kid on Christmas Day when I stumbled across the game in a retail store. The fighter avatar's (if that's the proper name) were great.
In a text sim, you don't need the fighters/players/athletes, etc. to look like their real life counterparts. That's EA sports territory. Besides, sometimes their renderings don't look so great either. With a text sim, all you need is a graphic or avatar representing the fighter. The skin color settings were great, too. Ali was black, Dempsey was white, and Galaxy was yellowish (sort of yellow tint). Hispanic fighters were tan. I thought it was a great representation of in the ring action. The overhead view was complete with movement, ring positioning, and knockdown/out graphics representing each event as they occurred. I wish more Title Bout fans could have seen this version of the game as far as the in-fight graphics go. Quote:

Good catch Meade. I agree this would appear to be an easy way to take care of the actual fight representation without going overboard. Kinda like the old Front Page Sports games which were ahead of their times and cannot seem to be duplicated in their accuracy and graphical prensentation.

And what I find weird is I have brought up the "Top-down-view" version, with the small animation figure boxers (of correct color, or close to) and it has never been addressed by OOTP, Trunzo's or Andrea's as to WHY the game went backwards (or away) from this? It was clearly a step backward - IMO - TBCB needs two fixes / additions - IMO - 1. Fix the AI stratgey (A MUST!) 2. Top-Down-View with animation boxers moving around the ring... |

Not being a programmer i have no clue how much work would be involved but it shouldnt take more coding than the current fighter representations, at least i wouldn't think so. This wouldn't as overboard as some people would like with EA style graphics just something basic. Kinda like OOTP adding the ball flight to the new game.

Simply the "corner's" AI selection of fighting styles to use.....(and there are some very simple solutions to correcting this). |
