I'd be happy to help, methinks it would be much better than the auto-scheduler!

I would love to help in any way, I would be intrested if you could link the activity of fighters to maybe their conditioning rating within the game.

Many champions have fought more than once or twice a year, guys like Ali, Tyson and Louis sometimes defended 6 times a year! other champs were terribly inactive people like Willard not defending for years and putting the title into mothballs. Would this be an option?

Also some guys when running universes hate the above, they want their uni to be in their mind how boxing should be if it was controlled and managed properly. With champions defending reguarly every year against deserving contenders, hopefully you could make this an option if someone wanted to run a "well regulated" universe.

This sounds really cool. I have been trying to figure out something like this for quite some time, but am not that good with excel. Count me in as very interested.

It does some of what you're asking, and some not. It does not in any way make reference to the condition of a fighter pre-fight ie. Over-trained etc etc, however it DOES make use of the inactivity for a fighter. It is possible for the champ to defend his title as a regularly as two months apart, or as much as twelve months apart. After trying it, let me know if you want this further expanded.

Ok guys, we should be just a couple hours away from posting the file itself. I am sorry for the long time between posts, but work sort of prevents me doing anything, as I'm sure most of you understand.

Anyway, I'd thought I'd lay down a few details as to what to expect, and the purpose of the post, as things have changed since I first posted about this waaaaayyyy back.

1) I created this file based on the fact that all of the previous files I had seen were a lot of work to create and maintain. I've heard of some sheets asking to roll a dice, change this details, change that, and it just became tedious to try and run a basic universe. With a bit of luck, you will find this much easier. You click once to schedule the bouts, run them, enter the results and click again to compute the results. Thats it.

2) Having said that, be aware - this is a basic universe. Some creative people have multiple divisions, multiple titles, set tournaments at given times of the year etc etc. Whilst their is virtually nothing I foresee being impossible to incorporate in the future I hope you understand the need to test something simple to begin with. Getting the basics right is fundamental to any future development.

3) This DOES require Office 2007. I am sorry to those that originally asked me this question, but some of the functionality forced me to make this decision.

4) This is a BETA - I am looking to solicite feedback on the look, feel, and most importantly suggestions on changes. You are definetely going to notice imperfections. Please don't write off the entire experiment, let me know and I will work on it.

5) I put a lot of time and effort into writing this, and am passing on to you guys as a big thank you to guys such as Cubedrum who have enhanced the enjoyability of this wonderful product tenfold. I believe the spirit of community here is great, and I hope this goes a little way to showing my appreciation. As this is free, and took a bit of effort, if you intend to use it for online universes, or use chunks of it to create your own sheet, a little note crediting yours truly would be appreciated.

Anyways, thats it, sit tight - I hope to have it online in a couple hours.

Isn't there a plug-in you can download to give 2003 Excel the ability to read 2007 files?

Thanks, Javier! I think this will help a lot of people. I know a lot of people who have/use Excel, but not the 2007 version.

How embarassing - so obvious.

Anyways guys, this is it. Not pretty at the moment, but it works. Give it a crack and offer as much feedback as you can. I expect there to be faults, please let me know as you come across them.

Most importantly, let me know what changes you would suggest, even minor ones.

Finally !

I can't wait til I get a chance to toy around with it tomorrow. For anyone that doesn't have excel, get OxygenOffice to open the sheet. It's an uprgaded version of OpenOffice 2.0.

2 questions:

1 - Does OxygenOffice open the file?

2 - Does it work with Vista 64 bit?

Thanks in advance for the answer....

Same answer really, I think it would, but I can't be sure.

I can open it with OxygenOffice but the Add Fighter button seems to do nothing when I try to import someone from the pool. I'm not sure how to add them to the pool so I've done it by entering their names. I have Macros enabled but none of the buttons seems to do anything .

I highly doubt OxygenOffice is going to work with any spreadsheet that uses macros. Macros are coded beneath Excel by a version of Visual Basic and nobody but Microsoft has the license to publish that. It's possible that someone could make a VBA to Python converter or what have you but a. it still wouldn't be perfect because we're talking about two separate programming languages and b. it would be a lot of work for functionality that, frankly, not a lot of people use outside of a business context.
