Mass conversion using infranview

I attempted to convert all of my boxer pics, some 17,000 in all to PNG. How can I do this using infranview?

I know it is possible, but I've only used the program to crop single images so I'm looking forward to an answer to this as well.

I had a very simple program that did this ages ago. It had thumb in the name and I just can't find it.

I have no idea how it works, but I found on the web a free program called GIMP:

GIMP - Downloads

According to a message board for it, this program contains a tool to mass edit from jpg to png.

Also, I have infranview at home and will poke around on it this wekend to see if I can find the feature.

There is also this freeware.

Batch Thumbs

I'm not at all familiar with this one either but it looks like it has mass editing capability.

I have seen a lot of favorable critical reviews of Irfanview. It is generally in lists of the top 10 free utilities. When it comes to using it myself, I'm not real high on the learning curve. I really need to read how to manuals a few times before I feel comfortable with software.

I have come to love Irfanview. I use it several times each week as I creep along in my ancients universe (in 1709 now).

I just haven't used it for any mass conversions. If it's there, I'll find it for you Mark. Have you downloaded the freeware yet?

Irfanview

I found it:

-> File -> Batch Conversion/Rename

You just select output format (png) and the folder where you want to put the converted files (both option fields are on the left). Then select the files to be converted in the top right dialog box).

It looks like when you are done, you'll have the old pic files still in place and the new png pics in another file so a bit of delete / cut-n-paste will be needed to tidy up.

Edit - be sure to select/set up a different folder then where the old jpg files are to put the new png files at least temporarily. If you just create the converted files and dump them back in the folder that had the jpgs it might be a mess to clean up.
