Update from Pool question

A quick question- I have a fantasy random universe and as such use retired and current fighters. When I update from the pool I assume for current fighters that I am getting their current rating which is obviously going down with age in most cases but of course I want their prime rating for my universe. But the rating may have gone down because the guy isn't as good as first thought. For instance, when I started Irene Pacheco in my universe he was rated 12 and now he is rated 8. Is this solely because of age and how would I know? Is there a way around this other than going into boxrec and trying to figure out each case by my own research? Thanks guys (ansd girls).
