Random Events Project
I have always toyed with the Idea of running a title bout campaign through extensive use of random events. Ive never done anything much about it however so i thought i would give it some thought and see if I could come up with some kind of system to give some life and excitement to people's universes and help spark some creative juices.
I want to include both huge events which would effect the whole of the sport plus a lot of more personal events which would affect individual boxers. A lot of the global sport events would be in the line of what if? events that would effect the whole structure of the sport, sometimes just working in the background sometimes having really tangible effects. Similarly real world events such as wars, disease independent of the sport but which would have far reaching affects may or may not occur. If we take this as a idea to help people run historical universes then it makes sense to split up the events into distinct eras of boxing as it dosent make much sense for a boxer fighting in 1902 to roll up an event saying he's got a new tv contract! So era's that come to mind are. Pioneer (1880- 1910) World War One (1910's) Roaring Twenties (1920's) Chaotic Thirties (1930's) World War Two (1940's) TV and the Mob (1950's) Great Global Reach (1960's) Popularity Soars (1970's) Alphabet Boys (1980's) Boxing's Decline (1990's) Modern Era (2000's) Will start with the pioneer era and try to come up slowly! with a 100 events and see where it goes. |

Pioneer Automatic Event - Bare Knuckle Rules Die Out.
Boxing formally enters the gloved era as boxing turns its back on the old bare knuckle days and establishes the Marquis of Queensbury rule set as the standard.
(Some eras may have automatic occuring events to ensure the universe can continue. As the game currently has no bare knuckle expansion rules this is one of those automatic events that must occur). |

Second, and perhaps of greater consequence for boxing, was Castro's communist takeover of Cuba. As we all know, Cuba was a mecca for professional boxing until it was banned shortly after Castro seized power. In my two career sims, Teophilo Stevenson and Laszlo Papp, I made an effort to factor in actual historical events (Rakosi's Communinst repression in Hungary and Castro's foreign policy). Of course I planned to incroporate these into the career sims to shape the direction of each. But by randomizing these sort of events, I really think you're on to something and look forward to watching how you develop the idea. |

Event Structure
The Following list of 100 events should be checked at the start of each game month and one either randomly rolled or selected. The vast majority will apply to individual fighters within your universe and these can be rolled or selected multiple times month after month. Others are one off events that can only be used once per decade and if they are rolled again would be automatically ignored meaning there would be no event that month.

Pioneer event 01 - I Can Lick Any Son Of A Bitch In The House!
Pick randomly or choose one of your most popular or skilled current fighters, and immediately schedule and complete an extra four round fight for him over and above what you have scheduled that month.
The Opponent should be a 0 rated tomato can already active or even better you can create a new 0 rated fighter specifically for this event. You can either have that opponent only ever fight this one fight or enter him in your universe permanently. |

It was very common during this era for a fighter to post a defi (challenge) to another fighter or to several fighters
I challenge any fighter up to 12 stone 10 pounds especially John, Paul, George, or Ringo

Schedulled fighter not showing up, loses his forfeit money as per the signed articles. Replacement fighter found in the fight crowd. Large % age chance the guy is a dub, but smaller % age chances he is a boxer rated 1 or higher

Hasty change of venue caused by police interference. Reduced gate.
Fighter may need to remain in the area and fight a week later

Somewhat rare. Fighter will fight two bouts that day in different, but nearby towns providing he isn't ko'd in first bout

Crooked promoter purloins the gate receipts. Both fighter stiffed. One or both must stay in town. Have either a rematch, the following day or one or both of them fights some stiff the following day so they can get enough cash to leave town

If the bout ends in a draw, treat the outcome as if police interferred and forced a change of venue. Continue fight with a rematch on the same day or following day in a different but nearby venue. May get a fight on record that is over 15 rounds this way, but editing of fight history might be necessary.
Use what ever method Conn Chris is using for the Royal Explorers Club to get bouts longer that 15 rounds

After a straight KO loss on the part od either fighter a rumored fix emerges. This will effect the reputation of the fighter involved. May hamper his ability to get fights he wants and opponents. It may also, if it is a big main event bout or a title bout, effect the legislation in the area hosting the fight.
Gans vs. McGovern led to fights being illegal in Chicago As a side note, caught a rerun of an old untouchables episode two nights ago. "The Untouchables" Head of Fire: Feet of Clay (1960) 21 April 1960 (Season 1, Episode 27) It has my all-time favorite fixed-fight scene in TV/film history. Eliot's childhood friend, played by Jack Warden, is the owner/promoter of a Chicao arena. Nemiah Persoff is the local mobster who controls the fight game. Warden invites Ness to the fights. The local favorite is fighting beautifully. Ness comments on the block of seven unoccupied ringside seats. Warden tells Ness they belong to the mobster and that he won't arrive until round 8, when the fight's gonna end. After the 7th, Persoff and his minions march in and sit down. Persoff eats a bag of peanuts. He finishes the bag before the end of round 8. He blows up the empty bag and pops it. Local favorite takes one on the chin, goes down, and stays down.

More serious rumor of a fix. This rumor mentions the round. If a KO occurs in the stipulated round the effects will be as above, but have greater magnitude because of the greater suspicion involved.

Thanks, I've thought about random events charts myself before. Just putting some ideas down. A lot of my mis-spent youth youth involved RPGs which involved random event tables.

Very wealthy fight fan offers a lot of cash to see a private bout between the champion and either the top contender or the champion in an adjacent weight class. No press will be present for the event, so the fight will not be entered into either fighters record/fight history.
should either the challenger win, or the lower weight champion, rumors of the fight will reach the public fueling a demand for the real fight This idea not limited by era. Taken from an H. C Witwer novel

Check odds on pre-fight favorite. If favorite scores a knock down or commits any foul stop the fight. The referee is ruling that the favorite has lost on a dq
Fight history will need to be edited

Checck pre-fight odds. At some point during the fight with the favorite ahead on the cards the favorite is dq'd when someone from his corner enters the ring in mid-round

The next KO victory by the fighter will have a "Bad smell". The fighter must be inactive for a number of months while the public "forgets" the incident. The higher the fighter is ranked, the loner the inactivity.
Can occur in any era. In more modern time a commission force a fight between challengers and champs.

How about the contract fights whereby a good fighter that can't get fights (many times this was a black fighter) contracts to stop someone in 6 or 4 with the fight to be declared a draw if the stoppage is avoided. The lesser fighter can get beaten like a rented mule but if he stays upright he gets a draw.
