fight scheduling
just curious how all the TF2001 players handle the scheduling of fights in the make believe world we create ... that was always my biggest problem when playing, figuring out who should fight who ... I'd love to hear a detailed method

Here's my method. Reprinted (edited) from the Yahoo Group in 2002.
I actually just started my boxing campaign. Done scanning photos finally, lol. I use all 2000 or so fighters at once. Fighters have a base 25% chance of fighting on a given month. This is adjusted upward 10% for each month of inactivity. Then I use a format where the highest rated fighter who's fighting in a division, fights the lowest rated fighter in the division. Second highest fights the second lowest, and so on. Modified by this rule. 50% of the time a fighter fights the nearest ranked fighter also fighting that month, that also rolled within the 50% ranking scheme. Champions fight top 10 fighters 75% of the time, or top 5 fighters 25% of the time. Champions must defend every 6 months or be stripped. Fighters also can be injured as follows. Each 1 or 2 knockdowns is a month resting automatically. A KO is a month resting. A TKO is 2 months. Each 1 or 2 cuts is a month. Also if a fighters Performance points drops below 0, he is moved to an entirely different class I call Clubfighters. When on the clubfighter circuit a fighter fights only other clubfighters until his Performance points raises above 0. Whew! This yields something like 200-300 fights on a given game month. Then I make fight cards based on the following. Say there are 200 fights. This yields 50 fight cards. I take the combined DP of the two fighters fighting and triple it. This yields a number from 6-60. I compare this number to the venues site ratings. I have all the venues sorted by site index and roll randomly off of this. In our example the 50 highest combined DPs of our 200 generated fights are "main events." The next highest 50 are the "co-features". And so on until all 50 fight cards are filled. Main events are 15 or 12 rounds. If main event 15, second fight. 15 or 12 rounds. If main event 12, second fight 12 or 10 rounds. And so on making sure that no undercard fight is longer than the fight after. All fights are fought at prime. Also fighters at multiple weight classes are seperate entities and can fight on the same month. If anyone is interested I will post some results. There are calendar sheets to keep track of this and random location tables at the yahoo group. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Titlefight2001/ Cube

I forgot that part. All the championships are currently vacant. The first two fighters in each weight class with 50 performance points will meet for the championship at the first opportunity. Also drawing power will be adjusted upward one point for every 50 performance points accumulated, or down one point for every-50
performance points. Forgot to mention that the fightcards in my clubfights division are completely random with NO rhyme or reason except that one of the main event fighters will fight in his hometown 50% of the time. Cube

Great info. I downloaded the calender from the Yahoo site, but I'm not sure how to use it.
Thanks. JP Quote:

The calendar sheets basically are to keep track of who's too beat up to fight, and I also use them as a list sorted by ratings to randomize fights. New calendar sheets will be posted each time I update the Data.mdb.

OK, cube, you are officially driving me crazy.
I received my copy of TF2001 today. <Thanks to those instrumental in my becoming a proud owner, again> I downloaded about 5 patches, additions from the .400 site. Wondering all the while, how long it would be before I used the ladies. After figuring out how to install them, something about DDinstall, and keeping them in proper order, I began to wonder when I could begin to fight. I then joined TF2001 on yahoo, thanks for the lead, wonderful site. I downloaded the archive 2, thanks again. Still wondering! So, I download the scheduler and realize I cannot use it, delete and download Sphygmic, nice easy program, thanks. Then unzip your scheduler, while still wondering. Review your scheduler, by the way the drawing power ratings are NICE. But, I want to play, how do you recommend I work out a way to randomize fights, it is time to play! LOL

OK, I think I finally understand your question. I use the dice roller included in the program called Role Playing Assistant. This gives you a randomizer capable of randomizing from 1-2 to 1-9999 and every combination in between. Then randomize as above. Get it at http://www.rpgweb.com/

It takes me maybe 6 hours to generate 250-350 fights. Then I run them constantly while I watch TV or do stuff around the house. Then certain fights I actually watch. Got a lot of fights to run, lol.

cube,
It's good to know that I don't have to feel guilty for not watching that matchup between two 1's or that bout between a 5-33 vs. 7-36. Do you usually watch the Main Event of each Fight Card? If not, how many fights out of say a 300 fight month do you watch? |

I've started doing something similar. Every fighter fighting in a given game month has a 1% chance of a cancellation. In which case I determine randomly who the replacement will be (total chaos math here). I did this to replace my rule of a cancellation when the run-time 326 error occured because I eliminated the error altogether in my game.
I usually watch maybe 1/3 of the fights. I won't watch 2 light hitting, defensive minded fighters unless it's a big matchup. Main events are almost always a big matchup. Cube

If you upgraded to XP, there is a complete fix for the problem that was created, not by the game per sa, but from the auto-installer. You can get a FREE xp version by simply contacting tom@400software.com or aramat@kiski.net. You have to have purchased TB2001, of course.
