I'm really sorry to disappoint you. We believed that a combination of EA's graphics and our expertise and wealth of fighters would have been a winning combination. EA was not interested. Fortunately for us, we found .400 Software Studios.

Perhaps down the road the silhouette feature could be added to the game. Not intense graphics to be sure, but I rather enjoyed that in a past version of a boxing game I had played. (can't remember what it was called offhand.) It really gave a feel for what was going on in the ring. If that could be coordinated with the text it would be awsome!
In fact I actually preferred the silouette over a lot of color in a text based game. (the minds eye once again.) With the between rounds damage as shown in the screen shots, it would be all we would need. I'm not sure if this could even be done as things exist now. Don't know how others feel about this idea, but something I would love to see incorprated into the game. |

Some thoughts
Quote:
The Game you might be thinking of was on the old Commodore 64 was it Title Fight ? it had a black and white ring with little figures in it. For its time it was a good little Sim i spent many hours on it. Some early versions of the Trunzos Fight Sims had a little boxing ring showing the postions of the fighters in a round. When the New Screen Shots were first shown i think i was the only one to say sometimes subdued colours were more easy on the eye after playing a Simulation for a long period. On one Screen the fighters had different stat bars under there names, one colour was a glaring GREEN My own thoughts were i don't want to be distracted out of the corner of my eye when i am trying to concentrate on the TEXT screen. At first glance something can look great but as i said after many hours of staring at a comp screen WOW ITS TO MUCH . This will show up or NOT during the testing i would think. ( yes i know all should take breaks but deal in reality ( how many of us do LOL. Last edited by wildhawke11 : 06-23-2003 at 06:54 PM. |

Ahhh.....Thank you wildhawke 11.
Yup....that was it. The old Commodore 64 Title Fight game. I too spent hours playing that game. I even had developed a rather comprehensive ranking system and how a fighter would get a shot at the titlle. A fighter had to be in the top 10 ranked fighters to obtain a title shot, if none qualified from the top 10 then the #1 contender would get the shot. The only exception to this rule was if a fighter upset another fighter ranked 4 or more numbers higher than himself (old rankings on cards) he would get a automatic shot at the title. If fighters in the top 10 rankings fought each other,(or any equal ranked fight) a win would move that fighter up 3 spots in the rankings. A draw both fighters move down a spot in the top ten. A loss and a the fighter would move down 4 spots. So if you were near the bottom of the top 10 you would be droped out of the top ten. My kids and I would choose our teams by draw and just do all the fights, then after the tourneys do the Title Bouts. (we each could pick 3 of our favorites) So you might fight a bum or a top ranked contender in the Tourney. Then I would resolve the top 10 I think. I also had 3 divisions, you had to be the champ of a lesser division to move up to the bottom of the next division. The bottom was the NABF then IBF then WBC I think. There were other rules involved to. If I come across it I'll post it on the boards. It all worked out pretty well and realistic. But the main point is we had alot of fun with it!! As for the glaring colors being a distraction after hours of play...yeah..I agree with that. I remember reading that post. I really did like those silhouettes in that game. |

Hootowl
Reading your posting my old memory came back the game in question was called Ringside Seat.
In fact it was only about a year ago when i was clearing what my wife terms as my RUBBISH out i got rid of it. Worse still was when i moved house from London about 30 years ago. I gave away so much Boxing Stuff. Old Books on Dempsey, Jack Johnson etc. 100s of old Ring Mags and other gear. We in fact connect pretty well, must be an age thing LOL I to remember the old War Games from Avalon Hill Times. you spoke about a while back. One war Game i played a lot that was on PC was "War in Russia" i loved it -- its now a free download, but not for the faint hearted meaning not a pick up and play game. Many Time i cursed as the winter set in on the Russian Front and my Panzers divisions and elite SS were brought to a standstill. Hey Wildhawke,
I play War In Russia, and also Pacific War (when I get the time, which isn't often), which are free downloads at the Matrix games site. I also used to play some of the old Avalon Hill war games. Shane.

Must be an aggression thing with us older guys. We can no longer do it for real, so we do it on computers, well they cant hit us back. ( well only in the pocket ) LOL Hardly play any war games these days to be honest and never have played Pacific War. I best say no more or someone will remind me this is a Boxing Thread Maybe 400S might one day bring out a good war game Yourself, Hootowl and i could help them out Cheers Shane ![]() |

same age
We must be the same age is right. I to played the Commodore 64 with the boxing game and the Avalon Hill war games. I still have Panzer Leader, my wife made me get rid of the other "RUBBISH" as it was stated earlier. It makes me smile to think of the simple days of table top sim games and all of the record keeping. You seemed to really get into the game more then with a computer. Thanks for the trip down memory lane....

Shane, wldhawke11, Siv,....ditto for me. Avalon Hill had some great board games of many different catrgories. I enjoyed many of those same games. I may still have a couple, but with our last move, as Siv states, the "wife" was on a mission if you will, many seem to be missing...lol
I recall a early computer version of one of the games about the allied bombing of Europe I played alot. I had a incident occur on day with the game. I had the map from the game on my desk at a gas station business I owned at the time and this wonderful old woman who was from Austria seen the map and became very excited at seeing it and pointed out where she grew up. As she realized what the game was about, she had a distant and painful look on her face as she showed me a tatoo on her inner arm from the prison camp her family was placed in. She told me some stories about what it was like over there, and the day her camp was liberated. As a Veitnam vet I think I understand "some" of what she felt. Did not play the game for a long time after that. |
