The ref doesn't hear the bell?

I recently bought this game and think it is excellent. But I have run into a little quirk. I set up a fight between Acelino Freitas and Joel Cassamayor (w/ Joe Cortez as ref) and I got this (in the 5th round):

02:54 Casamayor tries to push Acelino Freitas back in an attempt to gain room to punch.
02:58 Casamayor pins Acelino Freitas in the corner!
03:00 Oh!!! Joel Casamayor landed a sharp combination that rocked Freitas back on his heels!
03:00 Freitas was stopped cold by that series of shots!
03:00 The corners are screaming as the bell ends the round but Cortez seems to be in his own little world as he watches the fight continue.
02:45 Freitas moves into a neutral corner.
02:50 Joel Casamayor lands a crushing combination!
02:50 Freitas is going to need to regroup after that series of blows...
02:54 Casamayor motions for Cortez to stop the fight... Cortez is going to do it!! It's a TKO!!!

This seems odd to me. First of all, this is the second time this has happened to me (the ref not hearing the bell) in roughly 15 fights. More importantly, if the ref fails to recognize the bell, wouldn't the timekeeper continue to ring the bell until the ref (Cortez) heard it? Only a deaf man would fail to allow the fight to continue for nine more seconds after the round ended.

Also, although I know the ratings are subjective, isn't Casamayor rated a little bit too high in this game? His 11 rating is both higher than Acelino Freitas and Floyd Mayweather. Casamayor is a good fighter, but Freitas beat him (admittedly in a very close fight) and Mayweather looked more impressive against Diego Corrales than Casamayor did.

Speaking of Mayweather, Floyd Mayweather Sr. is not listed as a trainer in this game.

I've been a hardcore boxing fan for a few years now, and I can only twice remember when the referee didn't hear the bell to end the round. The most famous recent occurance was when Clifford Etienne fought Francois Botha a year and a half ago, and Elmo Aldolph didn't hear the bell to end round eight (I believe). I agree that this happens a bit too often in the simulator.

I think Casamayor should be rated about the same as Freitas or even a point below. I'm still convinced Diego will beat him in their rematch.
