Public Beta - TF2001 Importer

We've set up a first version of the TF2001 importer.
It's available at http://www.mirror1.ootpdevelopments.com/tbcb/tb1.exe

Please download the file and replace your tb1.exe (in your TB program folder) with it.
The version number is 1.1.2. In the Game Options Screen, there is a new tab with a button "Import TF2001 Database". Click on it, locate the data.mdb in your TF2001 program folder, and click on "Open".

TB will create a new TB database. It will overwrite NOTHING. Not your TB data, and not your TF data. So it's save to try it. When you start TB first time after the import, the TF database will be used. But you can switch back anytime to any database in the Game Options Screen. Or by editing the config.ini file, line Database=Default, in case the program doesn't run.

If you already changed records in the other tables (judges, rules, titles and so on), and want to use them together with the imported TF2001 data, then do the following after importing the data:

- locate the new folder with the database containing the imported data in your TB program folder, should be something like /Data/TF2001Data/

- copy the files fighters.dat, groups.dat, and history.dat to the "old" TB database folder which you were using before the import (should be something like /Data/myDB/)

- restart TB, open the Game Options Screen, and select the "old" database again in the Databases drop-down box
Please let me know how it works and whether the imported data are OK.

TF2001 or MS Access or any other program supporting MS Access databases (like MS Office for example) must be installed on your PC.

Known issues:
- seems to work only with a newer version of the "MS Data Access Components", so users with Windows XP should have no problems, but users using Windows 98 might get an error message when trying to import the database. But if they are using MS Office 2000 or newer, the import should work.
- doesn't import Title informations
- doesn't import judges and so on, only fighters and their bout history

Worked perfectly for me, although I didn't have a database with any histories in it, so I don't know if that part is working properly. The only thing I'd suggest is adding an option to choose your own name for the new database.

JeffR, when you imported, did you check your old TF2K1 fighters and see if they were now classed as "Active"? When I imported, the fighters in the Modern group were now "Retired" and those in the Archive group were now "Active". Just wondering if it was maybe something I did wrong.

Just checked, and yeah, they're all set to active. Must be a bug.

Oops, you're right, there is a bug. Just fixed it and uploaded 1.1.3 to http://www.mirror1.ootpdevelopments.com/tbcb/tb1.exe now.

Sorry Cap, I didn't find it the first time when you told me about it. My fault.

Hey, buddy, no problem! You make so few errors, this one is on the house. That still leaves you Number 1 Tech in my book.

Andreas;
First, I have W98 and it downloaded/installed fine. However, when I try to copy the TF2001 groups and fighters to my database, it asks to replace the current groups and fighters files (I didn't do it. Just left them in the TF2001 and will use them there, I guess). It's great that I can use the TF2001 files with the new game in the TF2001 database, but it would be nice if I could just add them to my current database without also losing what I've got. Any way to combine databases, rather than overwrite?
Thanks for all your work on the game and help to all of us users.

Vista, you can replace the fighters and still have refs, venues, cornermen, etc. from your present MyDB database. I've already transferred my guys over, and now I'm filling in nationalities, career dates, and cornermen. This should take me into summertime.

I'm using managers as cornermen when nothing else is available. Even today, they often work the corner. I'm making them both trainer and cutman and inserting them in both boxes in the fighter's record.

The only bit I didn't like (but can live with) is the opponents' missing records when you check Stats. They list them, but have 0-0-0 beside the names. I don't want to start over at this point.

This will be a lot of work, but the old universe is starting to shape up.

Sorry, merging the databases is not possible here.

Appreciate the honesty, Andreas. This is workable, definitely an improvement, and I can live with it ... LOL
Thanks!

Andreas, with this importer, I understand one can't combine databases. Is it possible to copy I fighter from my imported TF2001 database and paste to another TBCM database?

Andreas,

Another import function you might want to consider adding to a future patch: namely, some means of exporting and importing single bouts.

Great that you made a importer, Andreas.
Any plans to expand this import tool to cover APBA Pro Boxing boxers/records too? (or has anyone tried it?)

The db files sound familiar.

I was never able to import my boxing world of 200 fighters and 3000 fights across from APBA to TF2001, partly why I didnt use TF2001 much and still play APBA now.

If I knew I could import my fighter data across from APBA, I'd buy TBCB tomorrow.

Swanny,

To be honest we didn't plan to make a converter for the APBA data. Hasn't there been a converter for APBA -> TF2001? Then we could do it this way: APBA -> TF2001 -> TBCB

Unfortunately, I dont think there was.
If anyone can point one out I'd be grateful.

I tried manually recreating each boxer into TF2001, but got bored after about the 30th.

I can see of course why you are reluctant to buy the new game.

But being an old un myself and a lover of the Trunzos games from there board game Title Bout right up to this New One.

I have to say this, this present game in my opinion is a major step forward and worth getting. Its like owing an old car and being reluctant to swop it in for the latest model.

You only have to read some of the postings to get a better picture of how it has been received.
Cheers
Danny

W98 is OK usually. If you could tell us more about the way it made "Kaboom" please?
