Holyfield vs. Tyson (For Jim or Tom)

I just simulated Evander against Iron Mike over 15 rounds, both in top condition and in their prime career stage. Evander won the bout by decision by a HUGE margin. However, the thing that troubles me is that Mike Tyson was knocked down 12 times and got up every time. Something has to be wrong there. Ive never simulated a fight where 12 knockdowns occured, much less a fighter surviving that many knockdowns. Is there something wrong? Or is there a logical explanation for that result? There is no way (I dont think) that could ever happen in real life. Tyson didn't have the greatest of chins and he had no heart or will to fight his best once it became evident to him that he was being completely dominated.

I read your post wildhawke and Im not sure why I would want to kill you? I dont quite understand what you mean when you say that. I agree with most of what you said about Tyson. However, I still think that even a prime Tyson would have folded under the pressure of being dominated. It never happened, with the exception of maybe Tony Tucker who gave him some "problems", he was never in a position where he was being dominated. So all I have to go on is what I have seen, and what I have seen is Tyson almost completely give in to the pressure and frustration that Douglas, Holyfield and Lewis gave him. I mean for Christ sakes he bit off chunks of Evanders ears when it became apparent that the fight was basically heading in the same direction as the first fight did.

But anyway, about my question; Is there really ANY possible way that Tyson could survive 12 knockdowns? I HIGHLY doubt it. Even fighters better than Tyson wouldn't have been able to take 12 knockdowns.

But when a fighter keeps using his head against you its pretty frustrating at times knowing the ref is doing nothing about it.
Great fighter and warrior that he was, there has been times in Evanders fights when he should have worn a third glove on that head of his

I haven't had something like that happen to me yet (12kds in a fight and surviving...)

A boxer surviving a fight in which he suffers 5 or 6 kds is long shot (unless your Floyd Patterson).. 12 is just plain ol' unrealistic no matter what your ratings are.

Jim & Tom may have to revisit the relationship between a fighters kd and tko ratings. Even if your kd rating is poor and your tko rating is great there is no way surviving 12kds should happen.

While unlikely, it isn't unheard of for a fighter to survive multiple knockdowns. For instance, on April 17, 1909 Sam McVea put Joe Jeannette on the canvas 27 times, but lost while visiting the deck 11 times himself over the course of 49 rounds!

On March 20, 1931 Jose Santa knocked down Salvatore Ruggeriello 13 times over 6 rounds, but Ruggeriello was there at the last bell.

On Sept.7, 1925 Victorio Campolo dropped Miguel Ferrara 36 times in 5 rounds before the latter was no longer able to get to his feet.

I have to admit that I have no idea how this might have occured. I have fought the fight hundreds of times to test your scenario and can't get a duplication. Furthermore, the way the TKO is set up, it's hard to imagine this occuring. However, be assured that we are investigating the routines thoroughly as a result of this message.

I'd hold off on doing that, Jim, until thebadguy can produce a copy of the bout log verifying that there really were 12 knockdowns. Nobody else seems able to replicate that.

Well, that clarifies things a bit. 11 knockdowns, not 12, five of them for 1-counts, referee with "late" stoppage rating, and a cutman rated 10 in reduce swelling. I don't think there's anything wrong with the game engine, it's just a fluke result under circumstances that make it just barely possible.

Not too hard, you just have to do a text search for "1..." to count the knockdowns quickly.

Another thing: it was version 1.0.0 of the game, not the current 1.1.3.
