10-7 Rounds: Exist?

I day or two ago someone asked about the 10 point must system, and after describing 10-7 rounds I realized that I couldn't remember having seen a 10-7 round in any of my fights. So, being a bit anal, I thought I'd do some tracking.

Since then, I've just completed my 21st fight where 2 knockdowns by the same fighter occurred in the same round. I've been using different judges with the random bias selected. No judge (including the "unofficial judge") has yet scored one of these rounds 10-7, including rounds where the scoring differentials were 32-1, 30-0, 30-2 and 25-0.

In my experience, in RLB judges will not infrequently score a 2 KD round 10-7, and certainly many judges would score a totally lopsided round with 2 KDs that way. Now, there are some who stick with the 10-8 pretty much no matter what, and others who need to see utter domination to go 10-7, but it definitely happens more often that what I've encountered . . . which is never.

Maybe I've just had a bad run of conservative judges, but is anyone else getting 10-7's?

Haven't had one yet. I've also had some very lopsided 2 KD rounds. They were scored 10-8.

These days i don't think many judges score rounds 10-7
Like in the past.

I am just making a guess, but when you think about it when the fights from the past were over 15 rounds you at least had a bit of a chance if you dropped 3 pts in a round to stage a comeback.

But with the shorter 10 or 12 round fights its an uphill task so perhaps judges are advised to not give 10-7 rounds.

Also we have to remember that fights today are stopped much quicker then in the past, so a guy is not allowed to take such a beating in a round in most cases.

On that note it should make you think that the records of some of today's fighters is a little flattering when it comes to TKOs compared to the old time fighters meaning of course fights today are stopped quicker.

wouldn't a 10-7 round happen with a knockdown and a fighter having a point deducted?....probably doesn't happen often but I think I saw it happen somewhat recently on a tv bout.

Actually, 10-7 rounds are not all that uncommon these days. Just off the top of my head round 7 of Mayweather v. Corrales was a 10-7 round by one judge (the other 2 had it 10-6 which is rare), one judge had the 11th round of Holyfield/Ruiz scored 10-7 even though there was only one KD and Judah/Bergman had a 10-7 round (the first, I think). One of the judges in the Ward/Burton fight scored a 10-7 round without any KDs or foul, and one of the Ward/Gatti rounds was 10-7 based on a KD and a foul.

Here's what Harold Lederman has to say on the matter: "You have to score two knockdowns [to get a 10-7 round]," explained Lederman. "If you score two knockdowns you get one point for the first knockdown to make it 10-8, then the second point for the second knockdown, which would make it 10-7."

I am checking this out. We made some adjustments in the patch that rectified some of the scoring and I need to make sure in that adjustment that we did not eliminate the effect of multiple KDs in a round resulting in a possible 10-7 score.

Thanks Tom. I didn't know whether it was a glitch or a conscious decision to take a more conservative scoring approach.

I have gotten a few 10-7 rounds, they are uncommon though.

I got one tonight with a fight Joe Louis vs. Billy Conn in the final round where Louis floored Conn 3 times in round 15, he managed to lift his hurt body from the canvas to go to a decision.

Just wanted to thank these guys for their responsiveness. Less than a week after the issue is raised, a solution gets added to the new patch. That's the kind of dedication that will ensure the evolution of this game and cement a loyal following.
