Copying a fighter to a higher weight class
If this has been posted before, I'm sorry for repeating it. (Not really)
Some fighters are in the DB with different versions for the different weight classes they fought in (i.e. Archie Moore, Michael Spinks, Bob Foster). Some fighters are not in the DB in multiple weight classes even though they fought in multiple weight classes. Some examples are Billy Conn, Joey Maxim, Georges Carpentier, Stanley Ketchel. The reason I mention this is that some of these fighters fought for the heavyweight championship. I know the game adjusts for weight class when it matches two different classes in a fight (if so desired). What the game does not do is recognize a fighter who is not a heavyweight (or other class) who wins a title outside their weight class. If a LHW beats a HW in a title fight, the LHW is not the HW champion. I want to make copies of certain of these fighters so in my replays when they fight for the title, the game recognizes them for the title. I also want to see these LHW show up in the HW rankings. Finally, my question arises. As a rule of thumb, how should I adjust the ratings when copying the fighter to a new weight class? I can't just copy them with the same ratings because of course, they would be different fighters in the heavier division. I looked at a few of the fighters who are in multiple times, and they vary. Help please. Thanks. |

You've stated the problem but, without realizing it, you've also answered your own question. It varies. There is no "rule of thumb" because each case is individual. Not every fighter losses his punch or take less of a punch when he moves up in weight, although that is often the case.
The generic application done by the program when you use the "Adjust for Weight" option is just that - generic. It frequently emulates that which occurs (as it would have with Roy Jones against John Ruiz) but can often be wrong (as it would have probably been in the case of James Toney against Evander Holyfield). The only real answer is to individually adjust each fighter, based upon his performance against fighters in the higher weight class. One other point: there is a difference between a fighter who moves up because he can't make weight anymore in his current division without weakening himself (this fighter might not only be as good at a higher level but possibly even better!) and a fighter who just moves up for the chance at a better pay-day or title. If you want a generic rule of thumb for the latter: hitting power and chin usually suffer a bit (worsen by one or two); quickness usually is negatively affected as is hand speed IF THE WEIGHT IS PUT ON QUICKLY and for a single fight - so pl/cp might go down a notch and defense worsen by a step. Hope this helps. |

![]() That's what I was looking for, some generic rule of thumb. I am not qualified to do individual ratings of boxers I know next to nothing about but would occasionally like to move their weight class with some adjustment. Thanks for your reply. Martin |
