Ron Stander - the referee
anybody see former heavyweight Ron Stander tonight as the referee for the Garr/Vanda fight on Friday Night Fights? Good to see him still part of the "sweet science".

He did well and the fight was entertaining...BUT the decision was ATROCIOUS!!!!!!
Garr dominated that fight...landed double the punches....Garr was the victim of hometown judges. ATROCIOUS!!!! I can't tell you how disappointed I am that this kind of crap happens. Vanda won...maybe 1 round. A horrible display of the seamy underside of boxing. Minnesota does not have a state regulatory commission for boxing...so there is no regulation. I'm very dismayed. It would have been one thing if the fight was close...but it wasn't. |

Yes, it was a very bad decision. Even the judge that scored it 97-95 for Garr...I don't know what fight he was watching. Teddy Atlas did not have Garr losing a single round, with a couple of even rounds thrown in and I very much agree with the way he scored the fight.
But as far as Ron Stander...he did do an excellent job.

Who promoted the fight.
Unless the rules have changed he always paid the bills for things such as hotels, food, the whole works. As you said he is a new ref, if he does as told he will get more work. You upset there cosy little system then you don't work, simple as that. Plus the fact you don't bite the hand that feeds you, well that's if you want to eat again. You might have missed a posting i did some while back i was telling the guys that i know for a fact that in one championship fight the ref was told to favour one fighter. He refused point blank. He no longer has a job as a ref and he was a bloody good ref hard but fair, knew just the right time to stop a fight, and always his first priority in the ring was the fighters health. Many guys who ref a fight today should never in fact be in that job. There a danger to both fighters health, but they play the game and don't cross swords with the wrong people. How do i know you might well ask, the guy said so himself.

To add to what i just said, one particular fighter had a big TV contract lined up, So of course all in control wanted him to win the bout. On the way to the ring the opposing manager even said to the ref don't do my guy any favours they were all in on the deal
The result i am pleased to tell was the major money making fighter lost the fight. A couple of weeks later the winning fighter split up with his manager he found out about the dealings going on, but of course at the time it never was in the papers the real truth about the split i mean. It was a few years back now that happened. There are a few things that a ref can do in the ring which often goes unnoticed by the public. Other things of course are very blatant

Edited request
Rasmuth;
I know you're swamped. Just wanted to remind you about the Stander referee rating. Thanks in advance.
