HW Legends Edition Skin Released

This is a "beta release". I may make some changes to the skin when I release the complete MOD in two months or so.

The skin is basically in "greyscale". I wanted it to look "black and white" since that entire time period back then seems black and white to me mainly because of old photos and old movies.

The jpg photos behind each screens were either "screen captured" off the Internet or else they were "scanned" from the reference books that I have. They all pertain to the time period from 1880 to 1920.

So far I've completed about 30 Boxers of the 1880 to 1890 time period. I expect the entire MOD to contain up to 150 Boxers or so. I"ll also use only ring announcers (promoters), trainers, cutmen, venues, etc from that time period.

IOW, when you load my HW Legends Edition database, skin, fighter photos, venue photos -- it will be like an entirely new turn of the century experience!

I've decided to release the SKIN so you guys will get ideas of your own and see how easy this is. If I ever do another I'll do a MOD about the "Middleweight division from 1940 to 1960 or so". It would be easy to get background photos for that time period. This turn of the century is tough. However, I think the "newspaper pencil drawings" came out the best.

You can download the (9megs) skin here >>>>>

Yes. It's my daughter's soccer team. I take all the pictures and do the layout.

BTW, I uploaded a "plain" grayscale replacement opening screen. That way one can use the SKIN without seeing the HW Legends Edition stuff. Place it in the:

..../Skins/HW_Legends_Skin/1024x768 folder.

Bonedwarf,

Have you ever played the Soccer management sim -- Championship Manager? I played CM 03/04 quite a bit this past fall (I had to order it from England).

I think CM is over all the best sports text sim there is. But I've put it on the back burner for now.

Beach, Thanks for your wonderful looking skin. I tried to dl it last night into my skin folder which it told me it took it successfully. However my game wouldn't start when I tried to restart it. Obviously it was something I did. It would probably be too hard to explain what I did and how I got it restarted again. I'm a bit skittish about trying it again. Would you post step by step instructions on how to get it to work . Thanks : )

Here's goes:

1) Download the SKIN to a temp directory.
2) Unzip to a folder named HW_Legends_Skin.
3) Copy that folder to:

C:/Program Files/Title Bout Boxing/Skins/ folder. You'll see another SKIN there called "default".

BTW, I never place my sims under Program Files myself, so yours maybe different too. Just find the "Skins" folder in Title Bout and place the HW_Legends_Skin on the same level as the Default skin.

4) Then load the program and go to the options page. Change the skin to HW_Legends _Skin and "save" and then exit the program.

5) Reload the program and you'll be in the HW_Legends skin.

BUT >>> you may have a problem if you "unzipped" the download into a folder the same name as itself. This can easily happen if you are using XP. So, make sure that the folder "HW_Legends_Skin includes only these sub folders:

1024x768
Annimations
Common
English
Fonts
HTML

And not another folder called the same as itself. Again, it must be on the same level as the default skin folder. I might use an installer when I release the complete MOD. Hope this works for you. I just did exactly this and it worked OK.

BTW, if you want the other bg_mainscreen.bmp then you'll have to replace the bg_mainscreen.bmp in the "1024x768 folder".

hehehe I've actually done really well on some past versions. Decided to follow the true "crap manager" philosophy this time. No asking others for tactical help, no asking people for good players...

Board expect me to win the league and expect a long a successful era with me at the helm... HAHAHAHA!

Great skin! Really good work and I look forward to your next creation.
Yours was the only one I have found so far. If anyone knows where I can find more please reply on this thread.
I like the default layout of the game but I feel it has too much red. I would really like to know how to change the color, perhaps blue. Again if anybody has done this let us know.
It would really nice to see one based on the original board game box.

Thanks. I didn't change the red because I thought it looked good against the grey. I might do a "complete" new skin later. I think the default is "too much red" and the red has too much orange in it for me. Overall, I'm very happy with my greayscale skin, especially the "drawings" that I used.

That's my favorite picture too.

Anyway, I have re-uploaded the skin to my website and I've now included the plain main screen and I've also included installation instructions.

The download link is:
www.kleinpanthers.com/boxing.htm

BTW, if anyone wants to put this HW Legends Edition skin on their website for downloading -- please be my guest. Again, I hope to have the entire HW Legends Edition (1880 to 1920) MOD out by late March or sometime in April.

Bill,

I just installed your HW Legends skin and you really did a fantastic job with that. I love the old time pics as the background! The only problem I see is and maybe there's a simple way around it and I just haven't seen it is that the current fonts in all the screens is white(fighter names, etc.) which gets "blotted out" in the light grey skins.

Is there a way to change the skins say to black within the game do you know?

Thanks, your skin's a great addition to the game!

Rocco,

I don't understand what you're trying to say. Perhaps it is your monitor, but the "white text" on the backgrounds looks good to me. However, the "Fight Card" background is lighter than the other backgrounds -- so maybe that is what you are taking about. I rarely use the Fight Card myself, but I'll look into it.

Yes, all the action pics are in "black and white". Everything is in black and white. I chose that because my MOD is based on the 1880 to 1920 time period and when I think of that time period -- I think "black and white". I guess because of photos and movies.

Rocco,

I've just made a very small change in the "color ini" file and I think I like it. It changes some the text to "cyan" color. I think it looks pretty good, but I haven't the time right now to test it.

As I said at first -- "this HW_Legends_Skin is a beta release". It will not be final until I release the complete MOD.

Thanks for asking about this.
