Calculating the Odds
Ok..its Saturday nite and you have nothing to do. You bring up your TB and decide to have a fight card. As you being playing your TB through just plain fights, fight cards, tournaments, autoschedulers, etc..you set your fight card.
Your main event is Ali vs Charles Byrd. Charles Byrd you say??? Well through all your auto scheduling, etc..Charles is the #1 ranked heavyweight. I guess myself, how could that be..(when I used auto scheduler he was in it..and he became WBC (I think I picked unifed as my choice under the scheduler so whats the deal with that)...anyway we are getting off track..maybe someone can figure that out for me as you respond to this. The fight card is set...I look at the place bets..I dont place any bets. I find out Ali is only a 2-1 shot over Byrd. How can that be guys!! Ali is rated a 15 and Byrd is a one. Why does TB make it a 2-1 favorite. Then on the same card there is an "off the board" bet..no odds. So if you can help me out here I would appreciate it. Thanks. |

So Ali is only a 2-1 favourite perhaps the computer is taking in consideration Ali is now an old man. Its banking on maybe when Byrd looks up from his corner and watches old Ali warming up and shouting. So these the best you got today Well this old guy gonna put you away When i start punching and a doing the talking If you wanna stay healthy you better start a walking This aint no fat guy your facing here I can see already your a trembling with fear So your best chance now is to leave this ring Cause now your a facing the guy they call the King ![]() |

But seriously what about the 2-1 odds as far as this game goes..is there something maybe I did wrong..and what is this off the board bet..what does that mean.
I have made corrections to my auto sheduling. Retired guys get ranked now..would that have something to do with this. Need feedback here..a 15 rated guy going against a 1 rated guy..what would be the odds for this fight? |

Well, last card I made, when I checked the purses for each guy, everybody was getting the same lousy hunert bucks! Boy, I knew I was cheap, but give me a break. Shoulda been at least 200 clams for the main eventers.

So what drives the odds..is it what you bet or who is fighting how..seems to mean what should drive the odds is the who is fighting.
Staff folks..what calucates the odds for each fight or anyone with knowledge on this..I see Ali going against a tomato can who is #1 and Ali only gets 2-1 odds..some odds like Joe Louis over an unknown is 3-2...what makes these odds. I sometimes down even bet. That should have anything do with it? |

I've guessed (NOT confirmed) that betting odds are at least partially based on performance points. Sometimes I'll have two guys at each other with 1-1 even odds, and then a few "seasons" later (after both have won and lost different times to different people), someone will have a 2-1 advantage.
I've also made a few career losers to bolster a couple fighters' records, and the losers started off with promising odds, like 3-2 or 3-1, but are now ALWAYS off the board because they stink so badly. Whether that has to do with the record or the performance points (or both), I don't know, but it seems to be the logical thing.
