Title Bout March Madness Tournament

March Madness in College Hoops is approaching..so I thought of a novel idea. Why not have one in Title Bout boxing.

Heres the deal..I will only use heavyweights..active or retired..ranked by the polls 1-65...64 will fight 65 to see who will make it to the big dance.

The four top seeds will command each region..

If the season would end today for me..the top four would be Louis, Ali, Tunney and Holyfield..not to far behind or the likes of Marciano, and Johnson.

There is alot of grumbling around this tournment (lol) who will get in or not..some boxers are on the bubble. But the rankings dont lie..you dont have to go any further than the performance points (the title bout's version to the RPI)..Louis is ahead in that category.

Ali is already bragging..Louis is mine in 9..if the they are the two left.

Heres out it works.

After you have the field of 64. The top seed fights the lowest, etc in the tournmanet menu, 10 rounds each..all generic..so the playing field is leveled.

The final four will be played out through the "start fight" menu..15 rounds winner takes all. These final four will be the winners out their regional.

Gosh I just have too much free time here kids!

Its time to get down to business...soon.

Wow..no hits on this thread..I didnt want this string to go to the back page..guess if I am full of it..it will move to the front..but seriously here is the top four seeds in each region, so far until March Madness..come on boxing fans lets get excited here!!!

Ali
Johnson, Jack
Marciano
Louis

Ali would take #1 seed in The East, Johnson in the West, Marciano in the South and Louis in the Midwest.

In case you wondered the National Boxing Championship game would be east vs west..and right now that would be Ali vs Johnson, going 15 rounds...all generic...

Did I wet your appetite..Dempsey is #5, followed by Tunney and Jefferies..probably the committee would shuffle Dempsey to the South..wow what fight that be if Dempsey and Marciano met in the Regional finals.

Right now Ali has a 87.1 performance rating (on top of the RPI)..sound good??

Stay tuned!!

I'm surprised you haven't had more posts. This sounds like a really fun idea. It will be interesting to see if someone pulls a Villanova and comes out of nowhere to win it all!

Keep us posted!

Hey, I like this idea too! When it comes to TBCB, I tend to be a "tournament" guy...

I've only just noticed the thread Great idea.

One thing with tournaments, is it me, or can you just not give the winner of the tournament a title.

Regardless, March Madness is a fun idea I'm going to pick Marciano

Funny thing, I designed a 64-man heavyweight (1960-present) tournament today -- have to break it up into four 16-man tourneys first. I have completed my seedings, with bracket favorites Ali, Holmes, Foreman and Frazier.

I'll look forward to yours. Keep us posted!

Thanks...I look at it as a love fest. You can add your own drama and fantasy to this.

Such things are seedings and pairings..travel, etc.

I havent decided if I am going to assign judges, cutman, etc.

Not all the fighters will be happy.

Let it be known there will be no Don King involved such as promotions, etc.

It will be like a college like atomsphere. You can hear the bands playing.

Rocky is a sentimental favorite but it will probably come down to Louis and Ali.

The season is over the first week of March..then I will have the final seedings and I hope to have them posted. 1 thru 64.

I can tell you something now..Larry Holmes and Evander Holyfield think they will make some noise here. To modern warriors in their prime may do some damage..even Lennox Lewis who thinks he is not getting his fair share.

Then there is the villian Mike Tyson who says he can beat anyone!

There you have it for now.

Stay tune!!

One final word..Jack Johnson wanted to say if he can go mega rounds with Jesse Williard he could handle the highly touted Ali and if the season was to finish today they could reach the final match in the National Boxing Association Championship game!

I did this exact same setup with the old board game, four times.

1st year, Ali UD over Joe Jeanette
2nd year Ali TKO8 over Sam Langford
3rd year Ali MD over Jack Dempsey
4th year Marciano KO 11 over Ali

It was very time consuming. I'm sure with the new game things might be sped up a bit.
