Showtime Boxing
Is it just me or does show time show a lot of older fights?
I just saw a fight with Ricky Hatton the other night, and it was a fight from 2001. I think the last time I saw a match on Showtime it was also a couple of years old. Hatton's fight was a 2nd round KO. I simmed the fight in TBCB and sure enough 2nd round KO. Speaking of older fights did anyone else watch Ali-Foreman on ESPNC tonight? |

I don't have Showtime so I can't answer that question.
I did watch a few minutes of Ali-Foreman for the umpteenth time. It's a great fight but I really wish they'd show something else instead of the same ones over and over. I didn't watch the last few minutes last night but as I remember from watching another time, they showed quite a bit of the post-fight chaos including following Ali back to his dressing room. If you ever see it, look close and you'll see a familiar face ,(a "political" figure),besides Rachman, Bundini,Don King, et.al. Anybody know who I'm referring to?

As I understand it, for 2004 Showtime will air only one live card each month as part of its Championship Boxing series (first Saturday of each month).
They've also committed to continuing their series that spotlights young fighters in 2004, but it's on a less regular schedule. All other fights you see scheduled are replays. With ESPN2 and HBO both cutting back on their boxing coverage, it doesn't bode well for the sport. |

If you have both ESPN and Showtime, you get two decent cards a month. . .which although not great, can at times satisfy the hungry boxing fan.
Showtime has Corrales/Cassamayor II----Should be goood! Following week, HBO shows Mesi vs. Jirov, Wright vs. Mosely. While not great, still could be interesting.

I guess nobody noticed, or cared, about the trivia question posted earlier in this thread re: the "familiar face" in Ali's dressing room post-Foreman.
Next time you watch the fight, look for our Libyan pal Moammar Khadaffy. (Never mind the spelling. I've seen it three or four different ways and don't know, or care, which is correct.) Anyway, I remember reading in Ali's autobiography that the two met in England when the champ was there preparing for London or Cooper. Apparently, M.K. was a student then. Although I make no excuses for Ali's often poor taste in companions, I found it a surprising historical footnote to learn that the once and future despot was in the middle of the commotion in Kinshasa. By the way ,he looked much younger and vital than now. Guess that's what happens when your tent gets flamed by a few A-6s and F-111s. Bomaye, indeed.
