How many fights per year?

Hey guys,
I have a totally fictional universe that I am simming. I copied the active HW to a new database and randomly changed the names and places of birth. I even changed the dates of birth to reflect guys born around the 1900's.

My Organization began on 1900. The first year I simmed everyone atleast ten times so that the ratings would work. I am now into 1903 and want to get a more realistic number of bouts for each fighter.

What are your suggestions on how often a fighter should or does fight in a years time?

I realize that in my universe, I can make them fight as often as I want, but I want it to be similar to real life even if my boxers are fake.

Thanks!

I guess it depends on whether you want them to fight as much as fighters did in 1900, or as much as they do today. Ten or more fights a year wasn't uncommon back then, even for the upper echelon. Now it's about three a year for most fighters after their first two or three years. Like you said, though, it's up to you.

I did a similar thing where I also began at 1900. At first I wanted to have some approximation of how often fighters fought in the early 1900's. However, after checking out some of the records, I soon discovered there was a huge disparity. I mean, you had some guys fighting 2 or 3 times a year, and others fighting 30+ times a year.

So, if you're not using autoscheduler to run your universe, you could give the individual fighters a very broad range of fights and stay consistent with that era.

Since I am using autoscheduler, I instead decided to use an average number to make things easier. I took a very unscientific approach and, using boxrec.com, I randomly chose 10 "name" fighters who were active during the 1900-05 period. I chose name fighters b/c I figured there was a better chance of having accurate records. I then counted their fights (realizing that the boxrec numbers aren't entirely accurate & my sample was neither representative nor large) and averaged them. I came up with 11 fights per year during that period, and so that's what I use.

Right, Maxx. I should have specified I meant "averaged about 10." Good call.

Thanks Guys!!!

I do Auto schedule alot. What I have been doing is Picking a Random date 8-10 times a TBCB year and autoschedule all fighters except for my Champs.

Then through out the year I run from the "Fight card" Title bouts, big rematches etc.

I think I will stick with the 10 per year avg.

Thanks!

I would like to keep the stats low, but I have far to much fun simming loads of fights. I think I'm going to wind up with fighters with over 1000 fights. Ah well
