Rankings Problem

My rankings are screwed up. I’m starting over and have divided the boxers into 5 different time periods. I ran bouts in two different time periods to see how I was progressing. In 1920’s & Before, four boxers are ranked 1, 4, 5 & 6. In 1970’s two boxers are ranked 2 & 3. TBCB seems to be ranking everybody as one group but listing them in different time periods. What am I doing wrong?

what is the process you are going through to create these groups? Specifically.

I used the pulldown menu and changed men to 1920's, ect for about 12 boxers. I figured if I screwed up it would only be 5 minutes wasted. It shows my new groups, but is rating them as if they were one big group. Also I'm having difficulty with yahoo.

If you mean the ratings in the fighters' list.. then yes that rating is global (it is based on total performance points if you wanted to know).

If you want to get ranking for just one group (and are using version 1.3.0) then go to the titles screen, select a title and go to the rankings screen. Pick the weight division you want ranked. Now when you first look at the rankings these will also be global. However if you select the 1920's group (for example) from the drop down list in the top right corner, the screen will reorganise itself to show only the fighters in that group, listed from 1 onwards.

You will have to do this for each group, a bit of a pain, but it sounds like that's what you're trying to do.

Hope that helps,
Mark

Thanks for your response. I was refering to the fighters list. They only have a few fights on their records so going to the titles screen at this time wouldn't show anything. I'll go back and pad those fighter's records and check out the rest of your advice.

I just discovered that the fighters I put in new groups and im myDB not cubesDB. Is this important? Also when my 8 fights had over 10 fights, only Ali is listed in the rankings. The other 7 don't show up. However, when I select most wins, ko's, etc. they all show up. I don't understand why.

Well having the fighters in groups will only work if they are in the groups in the database you are running for your universe. The current database is shown at the bottom of the screen in the game. If the groups are not in the database you want to use then you will have to set them up again.

As to the rankings problem, check your options to see how many fights the minimum number to be ranked is. It sounds like you want it to be 10 fights which means that the number should be entered in the appropriate option field and saved and you'll find that everyone should be ranked now.

Hi Gunsmoke,

the minimum number to be ranked is set for 10. All 8 of my fighters have had more than 10 bouts. Ali is the only fighter ranked in the 1970' & 80's and nobody is ranked in 1920's and before. When I switch to All only Ali is ranked. And no one is ranked under men including Ali. I didn't see any universe on the bottom of the screen. Maybe I looked at the wrong screen.

No it sounds like your looking at the right screen.

A "universe" is what most people around here call their world of simulated bouts.

I've never seen anything like what your describing so I'm out of ideas. Hope someone else will have an idea for you to try.

Mark

Thanks Gunsmoke,

I appreciate your replies. In looking at the manual, I don’t find any mention of universes. Should I be trying to create one for each of my time periods? If so, how do I go about doing it?

Austin, the whole "alternate universe" idea was dreamt up by a few of us die-hards some time ago. You won't find it in the manual. Check out some of the boxing websites created by the guys in this forum. Those are universes based on customized groups and rules, and sometimes even an alternate history, all from a few fertile minds.

TBCB was not designed to accomodate these AUs. We've worked around the limitations of the sim. With any luck, the next game, an RP version of TBCB, will satisfy the majority of new gamers.

Like I mentioned before, you DONT want to create several different "universes" for each group of fighters. That would be a waste of time. I thought after our talks that you had already made a "universe". The first thing you need to do is create a new database, which some of us call a "universe". This is the database you will use when simulating ALL fights and creating groups. Cap is right, you wont find anything about universes in the manual. In the simplest terms: A universe is a newly created database which you use exclusively for your simulations.

After you create this database\universe, go ahead and create your groups... 1920's, 1930's, 1940's and so on. Just take the fighters you want and switch them from the 'Men" group into whichever Group they happen to belong to. If you have a fighter or multiple fighters who fought in different eras, then switch them when they are ready. Example: If "fighter A" fought in the 20's and 30's, have him fight several fights in your 20's group, THEN go ahead and move him into the 30's group and his history will remain in tact.

However, you will find that most people who run universes create just ONE group and come up with a system that starts off with a handful of fighters and then more fighters are slowly added as time goes on. Using a spreadsheet program and making it into a calendar is also useful for this. Check out this website, AGAIN: http://www.angelfire.com/games4/cubedrum0/ . On this site you will find everthing you need to get headed in the right direction. Cube has several downloads (including a calendar) to get you started.

Also, when looking at your rankings you have to be sure of a few things: 1. The correct database is loaded. 2. When viewing the rankings for your group, make sure THAT group is selected from the pull-down menu on the rankings screen, 3. Are you looking at the ranking next to each fighter from the "Fighters" screen? Or from the Titles\Rankings screen?

It's really not that complicated. It just sounds like you haven't taken the necessary steps towards creating your universe (new database). You have to get things REALLY organized to efficiently and correctly run a universe. Having several different groups isn't helping your situation any, either.

You haven't been online lately? Get on MSN and I will be glad (as you know) to help you get your universe going the way you want it.
