Lamon or Wlad?
Lamon wasn't being mentioned with Guinn (argh!) and Mesi. I think BoxRec rated him down in the upper 20s. That'll change ... as will Wlad's lofty ranking if he doesn't take his trainer's advice and retire.

That was a really weird fight. I don't know what to think about it.
One, Brewster has no future as a serious contender. None whatsoever. All he has going fo rhim, just like Sanders, is a big punch. That's it. He has no real boxing skills and a guy who will not be dead exhausted after only 4 rounds will tear him to pieces. Two, I'm not so sure that the reason Wlad was knocked out was his chin. Going into even the 5th round, Wlad just looked really tired. And then going into the 6th round, he was exhausted. It just didn't seem right. I'm not so sure that it was the punching power of Brewster that did, but just that he was so tired, he went down. Looking at him getting up at the end of the 6th round, he didn't look liek someone who was knocked out, he looked like someone who was just dead tired. I played sports all through high school, I know the difference. I've experienced the difference. (More time than I would like to remember) ![]() To me, Wlad's chin is not the issue, it's his endurance. He was getting tired by the 2nd round. It just...seemed strange. I wonder if there was something medically wrong with Wlad that night (or all the time) that effects his endurance like that. We know this isn't the first time he lost because he ran out of gas. If I'm his trainer, I get him fully checked out and if there's nothing medically wrong with him, I get him working on his stamina. |

Interesting article Sabotai.
I recall a couple of weeks ago on Friday Night Fights, Teddy Atlas disclosed that he was made aware that there is a top heavyweight contender with some kind of a physical problem that could result in tragedy if this fighter was allowed to enter the ring again. Atlas wouldn't name this fighter because he said he promised his source that he wouldn't. That, combined with the rumors of irregular blood test results and also some rumors that he may have diabetes, makes me wonder if Atlas was indeed referring to Wladimir Klitschko. There may be no connection at all between Atlas' comments and Wladimir Klitschko...but it makes me wonder. |

May, in fact, not be the fighter he was talking about, but you're right. Atlas' comment plus these rumors of early test results of Wlad's after the fight and the way Wlad appeared completely drained by the 2nd round make me really wonder if Wlad was the guy he was talking about. And if so, Wlad really needs to never enter the right again. |

Here is a list of Boxrec's undefeated heavys ranked in the top 50:
Joe Mesi Juan Carlos Gomez Audley Harrison Nicolay Valuev Samuel Peter Calvin Brock Jean-Francois Bergeron Call me crazy but the only "contender" on the list seems to be Mesi. Wouldn't that be just like boxing to have a huge box office draw that just might get some casual fans interested in boxing, only to have him be a tragic figure. No wonder Atlas didn't want to say who it was. Cube
