Fictional Fighters

For those of you who created a Universe with all Fictional Fighter, how EXACTLY did you go about creating those fighters?

I would appreciate any help in doing this.

I'm going to do this for a diversion when I hit a lull in my UBA.

Thanks in advance

Gary

Hey Guys,

I have a "Fictional Universe," Global Championship Boxing

This is my advice to you. You have to decide how much time you want to put into "creating" and how much time you want to put into "playing"

Both are great, but one can be so time consuming that you can't do the other!

For my GCB, I began by creating the fighters myself, but I found that in doing so, I realized that it was I who decided which fighters would be the best. I really wanted a more random feel where I was not in that type of control.

So, I stopped after a few created fighters and began to copy fighters.

This is what I did to make things more random..

I first started a new database called Global Championship Boxing.
This of course was just a copy of the original database that came with the game.

I then set up a new "group" Called Global Championship Boxing.

I decided that my fictional universe would only be HW. No reason other than I didn't want too many fighters to have to try and follow.

I moved the active HW's that are in my new database to my new "group" and then deleted all of the other groups (MEN, WOMEN, ETC). This left me with a database that only had active HW's in it.

I then would suggest that you click on each fighters biography page and one by one delete any bio and website info. This will be important later to help make your fictional guys random. What you don't want is to look at your stats for your fictional, "JOE BLOW" and think, "that's really Evander Holyfield"

You want these guys to only be who you create them to be. So first delete any bio and website info.

Then I would click on the "fighter" page of the game that shows all of your guys Names, Nationalities, etc. I would put them in alphabetical order, not rating order.

AND I would go through each one and change the names and nationality. I just did this randomly with no flow at all. I would first change the nationality to something different than it was and then make up a name that fit the nationality.

As you do this, focusing on the names not the ratings, you will begin to replace your "real fighters" with names of fictional guys. Once you have done 10-15 of them, you will not remember who used to be who.

Once you get all of them changed it really becomes a free for all because you have no preconcieved notions of who should be the best. Of course you still have the ratings to give you an Idea, but there is not a "name" attached to give the numbers any credibility.

Now, let me say that the way that I told you to do it is not quite what I did. When I began changing names and nationalities I put all my fighters in order of ratings and I only changed the guys who had a four or higher over all rating and left the "Trial horses" alone since they would never really be too competitive.

I wish I had changed them all because every now and then there is an upset by a fighter with a real name still attached to him.

Once you change the names, nationalities and remove the bio and website info, your guys will be all brand new and fictional.

I did not change any ratings at first.

Once I got going, I began to develop story lines for my fighters to give them character. Every now and then I would adjust ratings to fit the story line of the boxer.

An example is that I have a fighter that I call The Angel of Death Sanchez. His story line is that he is a 300 pounder that crushes his opponents, but at that weight he has no stamina. If you can get him past the fifth round he will run out of gas and you may have a shot. So, I tweaked his stamina to almost non existant.

This part will be the most fun. Bringing your guys to life.

If you are interested in other specifics that I chose to do you can read my "Welcome to Global Championship Boxing" Thread in the "Inside the ropes" forum.

I know it sounds a little cheesy to just change the names, but it is either that which may take you a couple of wonderful hours or create them from scratch and it will be two months before you can fight your first fight.

Honestly, once you begin the name changes, you will forget who used to be who and your new characters will begin to take form!

If I can help you in any way, let me know. Good Luck!!

The main universe I run is with real life boxers, but I also run a single division fictional fighter universe. Like Johnny, for the most part I used the fighters already in the game & just changed names/nationalities in order to save tons of time. However, after I finished, I had my wife go in and randomly change some of the ratings. I have no idea how many or which ones were altered. The only rule was that she couldn't adjust any fighter to over a 12 rating.

Because I have only 33 active fighters in the division at any one time (1 champ + 32 contenders for easier tournaments, etc.) it didn't take long to start the universe rolling. I wanted about double that number of fictional fighters in reserve (in my universe the fighters age and a new fighter is randomly brought in after a current fighter has retired), so I started out by having the autoscheduler randomly choose 100 fighters as my initial universe. After all the changes were made, I then had the autoscheduler choose the first 33 fighters that would begin competition.

In addition to the 100 fighters I altered, I also have created a few fictional fighters that were sort of based on real life "what if's." Like what if Earnie Shavers had speed, or what if Willie Pep could punch, or what if Michael Grant didn't have a glass jaw. For those guys I change the names but I specifically alter the ratings to reflect my "what if." Obviously, in those cases I know who the fighter once was, but I get a kick out of seeing how they do.

I recently just started a league that is completely based on fictional fighters. Granted, I'm very new to using the game and probably don't have as much in-depth knowledge as many of the people on this board do, but it was something came up with in about 24 hours and, so far, everyone that has signed up for the league seems to think that it will be something worthwhile and fun to do.

To check out the league, go to http://cba.mindwipesports.net

The league is called the C-Note Boxing Association. I'm still trying to finish creating and developing all of the pages for the site, but there's been such an interest to get the league going that I'm already working on running cards.

Essentially, I took all of the ratings (minus conditioning...) and broke them down into four groups and, for each group, assigned a certain amount of "rating points" that people are allowed to distribute amongst the ratings. I didn't include conditioning into these rating groups because, as I read it in the TBCB manual, it wasn't as much as a rating as a scale of how well conditioned a fighter is. So I set every fighter's conditioning rating to '2' (not super tip-top shape, but not a slouch either). I did this because it seemed to be the best way to keep all of the fighters within a certain range and make sure that people wouldn't just set all of the ratings as high as they could. I've run hundreds of bouts using some of these fictional characters and I'm seeing that fighters are not over-dominant (which, for a completely fictional league, I believe is a very good thing since it gives their creators hope that they have a chance to win every fight rather than going into a fight with someone and thinking they don't have a snowball's chance in hell of winning.) In a series of 7 bouts, fighters are splitting the series 4-3 or 5-2 much more often than they are 6-1 or 7-0.

Anywho, feel free to check it out and let me know what you think. As I said, as I am learning more and more about the game, I'm tweaking and making adjustments to the league as well. We've got a good group of guys and are always open for applications.
