I had Jerry Quarry knock out Gene Tunney in my 2nd incarnation of the IPBA.
In my 1st version...Tunney was champion and something like 29-0-0. So far in the TBCB version he's 7-2-0. Very interesting indeed. By the way...I will be posting some IPBA news here shortly just to update anybody who might possibly be interested. |

Dominick Guinn once stopped the "old" Ali in the 2nd round (one punch KO) to win the Heavyweight Championship of my universe. Ali later took care of Guinn over the distance in both the rematch & the rubbermatch (although in both cases Guinn did fairly well through the 1st 10 rounds -- including dropping Ali once -- until Ali took over completely during the championship rounds).

Good stuff, yes very interesting!
Not that this is a major upset but I had the "10" Mayorga go against Nino LaRocca for Nino's WBC belt. I have an "11" Nino based on an old TB card. That Nino took apart a very tough Ike Quartey to win the title. Anyway, Nino dropped Mayorga in the 3rd with a body shot for a 9 count & then Mayorga KO's Nino in the 4th with an uppercut. A short but entertaining fight! |

Tunney is currently my Lightheavyweight Champ with a record of 38-5-0. He has won 19 of his last 20 (the one loss coming by way of injury stoppage against Michael Moorer). 5 of his last 19 wins have been stoppages: 1 KO, 1 TKO by way of 3 KD rule & 3 TKO's by way of cuts/swelling.

Well, I started my universe on the same day they released the game. I used much of the pre-release build-up time to get my spreadsheets, formula etc. ready for the big day.
Also, because all my fights are set up on fight cards & I watch about 80% of them, I've limited this universe to the Lights, Welters, Middies, Lightheavies & Heavies with only 31 fighters active in the division at any one time. My most active fighter has been Carlos DeLeon who just retired with 57 fights. However, there are a couple guys getting up there in age (Tunney being one of them) who will easily eclipse that number before hanging them up. The goal of my ageing formula was for the average fighter to retire at about 50 fights -- with the tomato cans retiring earlier and the better fighters later -- and so far it has worked out about right. |

That's interesting maxx. I don't really "retire" my guys, their performance (or lack there of) does it for them. I checked today & Norris & Ayala both have 27 fights each. Norris is 21-5-1, while Ayala is 24-3 - both @ Jr. Middle. Norris appears to be @ the end of his career losing to Oscar & D. Moore by UD. He was knocked out by both Vargas & Ayala. He did put up a tough fight recently against Shane though losing a 12UD.
Ayala was my IBF Jr. Middle champ until D. Curry TKO'd him in 2 for the "Battle of Texas!". Ayala is also my WBO Middle champ so he's moving up there to defend that belt on June 5th. |

The one "young" Ayala fight I'll never forget was that time on network TV -- I think it was against Robbie Epps -- where he destroyed the guy & was so pissed off that the fight got stopped before he could inflict even more punishment that he spit on his opponent. A violent thug both in and out of the ring . . . but, man, he did have potential.

You said it maxx! I recall that spitting too. I think Vargas spit on Ross Thompson after stopping him - right before Tito took him apart in their fight. I would have loved to have seen an Ayala/Vargas match had those 2 come up @ the same time. Or how about Oscar vs. Tony? That's obviously a fight that would have been huge in the Latin American community but I think that fight would have been big enough that most of America would have tuned in for that fight!

My heavyweight universe has had a view pretty good upsets happen in it. I first removed any heavy with a rating of 11 or higher then randomly selected 75 to start my universe. After running them each through 10 random fights between each other, i tossed in a random selection of 400 computer picked fights and went from there. I took the top 4 rated to run a mini tourny through the first half of my first years worth of fights and those four were Jim Colburn , Jimmy Ellis, Tony Tucker and Tony Marullo (WHO?). Lennox Lewis and Ernie Terrell had great records, but were on the back end of the top ten, so they would have to evenually try to fight their ways up. Anyways, Tony Marullo(a 5 rated fighter), beats Tucker then Ellis to become champion and in his 1st defense takes on the now #4 rated Lennox Lewis and knocks out Lewis in the 5th. Kinda feels like a Rocky Balboa story, but I'm enjoying it. We'll see how long he can last.

I have an accelerated schedule for setting up fights. Each month, each fighter has a 25% chance of fighting (gotta be tough, ya know), and then i have a small formula to determine if they will fight a fighter ranked closest to them or a lesser "warm up" to a future undetermined fight. As for the champ, he has to defend every fourth month and i determine his challenger from the previous month that he defended and the following month (a fighter fighting and winning two top-15 fighters in those months will usually be considered. I haven't started the following month yet, but Juan Carlos Gomez and Pinklon Thomas have both put up good arguements. We'll see if the numbers fall their ways when i random for the next month. I've thought about using my own judgement and setting up elimination fights, but I really enjoy the randomness of it. I also will be having 6 new fighters entering into the mix this next month also, so maybe some new blood will work their way up also.

I just had Billy Collins Jr (a 4 overall) win on a cuts TKO over Gustav Eder (a 10 overall) in my EBC universe. Big upset.
