first time for everything

I was playing today and had a fight that was stopped due to cuts. 2 things funny actually happened in this fight, 1 fighter was cut early but it was closed in the next round the ref stopped the round with 10 seconds to go and sent both fighters to there corner. In the next round the fighter with the cut had that cut reopened and the ref stopped the fight. So i guess the cuts do reopen and the refs make mistakes just like they really do.

Refs mistake

I was looking for the mistake and I guess you're thinking the ref sending people to their corners with 10 seconds left was the mistake. There is no mistake. I often hear people saying the ref stopped the fight with 5 seconds left in the round. That too is not a mistake on the refs part. The refs job is to referee a fight as he sees fit with no attention to time left in a round. There was a big fight years ago when a ref stopped it with under 5 seconds to go. The fighter getting beat up was clearly ahead in the fight when the ref stepped in. I too was outraged saying there was only a couple of seconds left the ref should have let the fight end. I was corrected by Arthur Mercante Sr., who told me the ref was correct in stopping the fight as he saw fit without looking at how much time is left.

dempsonny: Are you referring to the 1st Chavez/Taylor fight?

Meldrick Taylor

That was the fight Hamed. Richard Steel was the ref and he stopped it with 2 seconds left. Chavez had just knocked Taylor down too. I think it was in 1990 and I think one judge had the fight for Chavez which made me think it was a fix at the time. I called Mercante on Monday and he told me Steele acted correctly, he is not supposed to pay attention to how many seconds are left in the round.

My mistake, I thought you meant he stopped the fight with 10 seconds left in the round.
Then that was a mistake that's probably in there on purpose.....even more realism.
