What is the better way to sim a carrer?

To adjust the fighters ratings as their carrer moves along or to use the carrer stage function?

Hey there Fall i haven't said hello yet so welcome to the gang. My personal preference would be to use the career stage option. When i have used that it seems to work good enough. The only caveat to that would be if you really know the fighter well and could accurately portray that well. Good luck .

I should of clarified a little bit more. I was asking for a created boxer. I like using the engine to do an 'rpg' type of gaming experience.
The reason I ask is because as I was reading the manual it stated that you would want your control factor to be low at the begining of your carrer.
The carrer stage function I assume 'modifies' your actual ratings but the exact formulas behind it are a mystery.
I just got done running a series of tests. I create a light heavy weight with an 11 rating (A Gene Tuney type, not alot of power but excellent defense and good at outside boxing) and set his carrer stage to begining. I put him against the top LHW, CW and HW in the active era with ratings over 6.
He won about 40% of his fights and lost fairly often in the early rounds to anyone with an 8 rating.
I move him up to prime and while he didnt do as well as I thought we would do he won about 80% of his fights.

I actualy expected him to dominate the heaviest three weight divisions. I guess my decision to give him a 'weak' chin was the biggest downfall. Most of his victories are decisions and those bouts he does'nt win are almost always due to KO.

I thought changing the Career Stage in TBCB didn't modify ratings?

It doesnt visibly but from my tests the lower or later the carrer the worse off a fighter is. Im assuming it adjusts the ratings 'behind the scenes' would be nice to know the exact formula used but I understand the reasoning behind developers not wanting to give those out

It doesn't modify ratings on ACTIVE fighters only.

There are a couple of older threads on ageing that you may want to take a look at. There was one from me when the game was first released where I did a bunch of testing to come up will a ball park guess at the game's ageing formula (sorry, I don't remember what I came up with). Also, someone later posted the ageing forumula that had been used in the earlier version of the game.

If someone really wants to know the formula now days, though, it could be done easily by creating a separate database and using the function that retires all fighters and switches them to prime using the inverse ageing forumla. Then just compare the changes that occur with fighters at beginning, pre-prime, etc. with the same fighter in the All Prime database. For my purposes I don't need the ageing formula anymore, so I haven't bothered making the analysis.

From what I do remember of the formula, though, part of your problem may have to do with starting of the control factor so low. I seem to recall that the change in control factor from beginning to prime under the career stages is not all that dramatic. To the best of my very poor recollection, a fighter going from beginning to prime gains just 2 points of control along the way: 1 point when going to pre-prime and a second point when going from pre-prime to prime. On the downside of his career he loses more than he gained. I believe he loses 2 points of control when going from prime to post-prime, and then one more point when going from post-prime to end.

Hope some of this helps.

Hopefully a sequel will have an experience rating to be added.
