Good Heavyweight Fights
The Minto-Madelino (sic) fight was a thrilling battle. I had Minto slightly behind when he finally toppled the other guy. If I were Minto though, I'd lose the extra pounds and fight at cruiserweight. That division needs a few exciting fighters.
I scored the Maskaev-Defiagbon fight 97-92. I was hoping the Halifax fighter would prevail, but he has a couple of serious flaws, and he is too old to correct them. He should join Kirk Johnson in retirement. Boxers in Canada just don't have the top trainers they need to learn and grow. There also is a shortage of good cards to fight on, even if you throw in every jurisdiction in Canada. Good luck to Maskaev.

First fight was excellent.
However Minto should of taken advantage of the huge misses long before he did. Madelino threw 2-5 looping roundhouses a round. Minto easily ducked under each and every one except for a few that glanced off of him. Any other fighter with more experience would of beat him to the punch or ducked under the punch as he did and then came up and delievered a blow that would of put Madelino's head in the front row, or delievered a strong hook to the ribs. It took until one minute left in the fianl round for him to throw a desperation shot. Madelino was out before he even hit the canvas. He had alot of heart but tried to get up but found that his legs wouldnt obey his mind. I also like how the refree hugged him after the fight, he realized both fighters laid it all on the line. Great bout. The second bout wasnt quite as excited since it was one a one sided affair from the fourth round on. Defiagbon for reasons unknown kept Maskaev on the end of his long arms the entire first round. If he had kept him on the end of his straights and jabs the whole night and used his good footwork he would of won. The first and third scores were pretty accurate but I have NO idea what fight the 2nd judge was watching. He had Defiagbon ahead by I believe 6 points. Atlas and the other man (forget his name were shocked) the man in the ESPN HQ were shocked, Shramba Mitchell was shocked. I was shocked and my gf who watches just a little boxing with me was even shocked. When she can cleary see who won a fight then something is definitly wrong. Maskaev got the win but if I was him I would still file a complaint with the state of New Jersey to have that idiot 2nd judge reviewed. |

Minto is another local prospect from the Pittsburgh area. He and Calvin Brock are stable mates at a gym down in Alliquippa. Although I love to see local fighters do well, I just don't see a big future for him. Hopefully he can prove me wrong.
