Ricky Hatton opponents

Even though Vivian Harris decided not to fight Hatton, I can't believe Hatton is having such a hard time lining up an interesting fight. IMHO JWW is one of the deepest divisions in boxing. Junior Witter seems like a natural choice. Witter has 14 straight KO victories, since losing his bout with Judah. Witter is an akward southpaw, Although I don't think that makes a difference to Hatton.

Hatton needs to find some way to campaign in the States or he is going to continue getting passed by ala Calzaghe.

I think that tells you how scared the welts are to fight this guy, he's a tough aggresive litle fighter (lil like Pacman), the guy never stops coming forward and him and Jirov are the best bodypunchers in the game, I wouldnt fight him either lol........but ya,he needs to fight well known american fighters to advance at this point

I want to see who Harris will now fight next. He may have a point about wanting more money than Hatton but it also might be a convieniet excuse not to fight him. Is he going to fight Oktay again? No wonder HBO or Showtime don't want to put that fight on US TV!

He'd probably duck Cotto too but Cotto's got that WBO shot in Sept. I wonder if Harris would fight Mayweather or will he demand too much money there too?

I've always been a massive Hatton fan, over here in England he is our biggest name boxer at the moment and by far the biggest ticket seller. But he is now at the point in his career where he needs the big fights to further his career. We've seen him destroy many foreign blown up lightweights in Manchester and Frank Warren has been promising a big fight for a while now. People tend to blame Warren and single him out for this situation, and while I'm not Warren's biggest fan by any means, you have to point the finger at Hatton as well. I THINK he has the ambition and desire to step it up a gear, but we'll have to wait and see if he decides to take the easy route or go on to bigger and better things.

I know Vivian Harris was at fault for this latest shambles, I really don't see where he is coming from with his money issues. He is right in that as the champion he deserves a lot of money but to reject the $750K (biggest amount in his career by far) is a joke. But while Harris is at fault for this, you have to question Warren and Hatton. If it had gone to purse bids and Harris taken 60% and Hatton 40% of the pot then Hatton should have viewed it as a chance to make himself a big name in America. As long as Hatton received a reasonable amount of money, he should have took the fight, then if he beats Harris, he can handpick from the best LWW's out there and earn the real big bucks. You have to make sacrifices sometimes. Look at Danny Williams. He complained about the amount he was to make in the Tyson fight - but he took the fight and beat Tyson, opening up all sorts of avenues for multi million pound fights. I feel that as long as Hatton is with Frank Warren, the big fights won't happen. Harris would have been ideal and it would have been a fight of the year contender. Now who does he go for? Spadafora is injured (that would not be much of a fight anyway) and most of the other top LWW's are busy. Gatti would be an excellent fight, but he'll be taking on Mayweather next.

All of this leaves one man to step through and take Hatton on - Junior Witter. Witter is a great boxer, and is a super-confident guy - he believes he'd knock Hatton out within 5 rounds. Truth is, Warren is scared of making the Witter fight because a defeat to Witter would shatter Hatton and decrease his marketability a lot. Witter would be cheaper than the likes of Harris and this would be a superb fight. I hope it happens but I fear it won't - Hatton is thought of more highly than Witter over here by the majority so he has more to lose than gain from it, and Warren knows it.

Dave,

I agree that Witter should be Hatton's next opponent. If that doesn't happen, then maybe he should fight someone like Lovemore N'Dou. The JWW division is possibly the most talent laden division at the moment. I also hope Kostya Tszyu can get his body right so he can fight again soon, though I think he is near the end of the road.

Cheers,

Shane.

To be honest lads I've almost given up any hope of Hatton fighting someone with the ability of say a Mitchell or a Mayweather. I think it's more likely that Hatton will retire from boxing than Hatton fighting these guys!

I dont blame harris at first I was mad, i said damn this guys ****ing calls hatton out and then not take the fight, but once i learned the details i couldnt blame him, now I know its about who fills the seats and thats all fine and danny, but the buttom line the 750k he was going to get the net work sports networ was going to get 350k and he said paying trainers and stuff 100k which left him with 350k and he have to go to ricky home town which wont let him lose a decision unless ricky just get dropped like 8 times lol, and then ricky would get 3mil plus gate money plus money from show time or fox whichever was going to broacast it, so harris said let it go to purse, and thats when warren and hatton showed there real color what fighter withdraw his number 1 ranking?

a fighter who had no intention on fighting harris in the first place hatton and warren been working togather with there media fights just so they can fight another bum and say (we had no oppnets) when they could have let the fight go to purse if he bought the fight for 4mil then ricky would get 3 and harris 1 thats the highest i could have seen the fight going so he cant lost harris just wanted it to go to purse so it wont be there rules it will be the name of the game, be ups to harris for Forcing warren and hatton to show there real colors havent heard from them since they withdrown THE MANDATORY NUMBER 1 SPOT!

Exactly! What will it prove by beating him, that Hatton is even more ready for a title shot?

Hatton

Hatton is wasting his career just like Calzaghe. If he is half as good as his press corps make him out to be he should take on some decent fighters. Michael Stewart is a joke.

It's not serious to have a boxer that intends to win a championship belt not being able to pick up a plane and travel abroad to steal the title...Once the belt is yours, you may set up conditions...till then, just a whiney fighter...
