Brewster vs Meehan

Is anyone going to watch this fight on the weekend?
I actually booked the fight on PPV, which is something I don't usually do very often (the wife won't let me), but the local interest in seeing Meehan fight for a version of the world HW title lured me in.
I think Brewster wouldn't want to take Meehan to lightly, as big Kali can hit alright. Even so, I think Brewster would have to start as a strong favourite.

Go Kali,

Shane.

Kali

Hi Shane, I don’t see this as a PPV fight so I won’t be watching. But, you are correct, Kali can really punch. He was in the Greater Boston area training when he arrived in the United States. A friend of mine was an assisting he and his manager when they first arrived and told me he could really crack. He said that he heard that Kali hurt Audley Harrison and had him stumbling around badly when they sparred in Great Britain (hearsay). That’s the reason he was signed and brought to the States. I’ll be rooting for him.

Yes Shane, I'll be watching that fight. It's on Showtime up here in the States & with those 2 punchers, it should be entertaining!

Brewster-Meehan

I just checked and as a subscriber of Showtime I will get to see it free (if you call a high monthly cable bill free). So, yes, I will watch it.

Its on showtime

The fight is on showtime. I've never seen Meehan fight, but Brewster is a catcher (gets hit often), so anything could happen.

Kali Meehan

Brewster should be favored to win based on level of competition. But, according to a friend of mine who worked with Kali in the gym when he first came to the U.S. he can really punch!

117-111 Meehan is how I scored it.

The score cards are taking too long. I smell a rat.

Meehan

I had Meehan winning by 4 points. I gave him a 10-8 in the 8th.

No way Brewster won this fight. But its Vegas.... so no surprise!

its really disconcerting..........I thought Oscar lost his last fight by 4 or 5 points as I did Brewster. It seems that the promoters have the results predetermined (unless there is a KO) because of the profits they will gain in the fighters next bout (Hopkins) and in the case of Brewster (Holyfield).

The next question must be: How the heck does Holyfield get a shot. He won't last 5 rounds with Brewster; and Brewster is at the bottom of the heap when we grade past and present Heavyweight Champions.

I would rather see Jirov get a shot at Brewster.

I had the fight 115-113 Meehan. a 10-8 round in rd 8 is possible...but its too subjective ( even if brewster was getting his ass beat to a pulp....so you stick to the rules 10-9 rd if there was no knockdown).

All scorecards were within 2 points of eachother...and there is certainly one or 2 rounds that could be seen either way ( in the 1st round, they could have run around in circles and it could have been easier to score)...I can see 115-113 either way.

Two things bother me about this desicion. The judges all had the 12th round scored for brewster....which sugests that the fix was in! NO WAY BREWSTER WON RD 12. Those punch stats I gaurentee favored Meehan HUGE!!...and Don King suggesting that Evander was next in line and that Meehan was not in line for a rematch solidified that the fix was in....or those judges were seeing some other fight ( in rd 12)

It makes me sad because boxing is my favorite sport...and over the last 15 years, I see it going the way of wrestling ( fixed outcomes...based on financial issues...point in case De La Hoya vs Sturm). Like I said I dont mind it being 115-113 either way....but the 12th round was pretty clear cut. This is why i am having to have problems forking out money for PPV ( this was on SHO so I didnt have to pay a thing). One thing I did see today was the price of the Hopkins/De La Hoya PPV was 59.99. WTF? Sports bar or replay on HBO!!!!

Anyways....sorry for the long rant!

Disgraceful Judging

Fair dinkum, the 2 judges who scored the fight for Brewster should REALLY be sent to prison. This is nothing short of fraud. I had Meehan the winner 115-113, and I was being very conservative, knowing that I myself might be biased towards Meehan. Like Almo, I honestly can't see how they scored the last round for Brewster.
This is the sort of rubbish that drives people away from boxing, in fact it reminds a bit of the Fenech vs Nelson robbery.
Anyway, Meehan certainly fought his heart out and did himself proud. A rematch in Australia would be great, though I can't see that wanker Don King agreeing to it. Also be interesting to see how Meehan will be rated for TBCB.

Cheers,

Shane.

King could barely acknowledge Meehan, let alone admit the guy deserved a rematch. I agree, another bout in Australia would be the correct route to take but...need I say it?
If Showtime or even HBO has any sack, they'll give Meehan some exposure, at least a chance on another card, he earned that much since he got jerked tonight.
Holyfield? That is an out and out disgrace, period. This is the world of Don King, only give shots to those you think won't win. The belt doesn't mean jack anyway, but it's still a joke. No one should watch that crap.
Write to Showtime and THE RING (Comeoutwriting@yahoo.com) and voice your opinion, I sure as hell am.
A sad end to a what was a very good fight.

To back up my statement "This is the sort of rubbish that drives people away from boxing", I just watched the news on a mainstream Melbourne TV station (channel 10 for you Gunsmoke), and the opening comment by the sport presenter was "well, if you haven't lost all faith in boxing yet, then the world heavyweight title fight between Australia's Kali Meehan and American Lamon Brewster might help you to".

Disheartening.
