Just watched the replay of the July 18 Kirk Johnson-Gil Martinez tenner from California. About the best you could say is that Johnson got some work in. He seemed a little gun shy, and fighting a south paw for the first time didn't help. He came in at 242, but would look better at 232. Johnson claimed he jammed a knuckle on his right hand in the second, and couldn't use it much.

If he's going to make any kind of move, he should do it soon. His team should match him against David Defiagbon for the vacant Canadian title, then take on someone like Audley Harrison or Hasim Rahman. Who's the NABF champ right now? That would be a logical title to shoot for.

Oh, looks like it's last call here at the Royal Canadian. One last root beer for the road.
